So you openly admit to your illegal actions on a public forum...smart.

downloading mp3's is one thing but burning DVD's come on people it's not like $20 for 1 3 minute song, you're paying $20 for 2 hours of entertainment + extras. you people make me sad.

He just said that he burned all of the copies he made on Saturday night. So he copied them, that was illegal, but at least he had a change of heart and burned them

pros and cons?

Pros: 20 dollar flat rate per month, huge selection (15,000+), ability to queue movies, no late fees, paid shipping.

Cons: at least 1 day wait to get next movies in your queue, next movies in queue don't ship until they receive your movies back.

The pros obviously outweigh the cons by a long shot. I will never rent from blockbuster again.

I was pointing out the legal defenses of his post. Not really trying to be funny.

what about new releases?

i've read in past that netflix treats new members promptly but if you've been with them for a while, it takes a while to get new releases

you learn to toss a ton of tv/older good movies/indi films/animation in that keeps the flow smooth. but yes, sometimes you won't get the new release right away. the massive selection and ease of use makes up for it.

are the dvd's in good shape or are they all scratched and beat up like the ones from blockbusters?

All of the DVD's I've received so far (I'm a newb only about 10 dvd's total) have been readable by my dvd player. I've looked at a couple of them and some of them had a couple of scratches, but nothing major. The thing with netflix is that you mark on the sleeve that it's unreadable, and they'll probably just toss it and replace it with a new copy. Just put the movie back in your queue and they'll reship it out. That's the beauty of the flat rate fee. Screw blockbuster and their late fees :|

As crazy as this sounds, it IS true. I was looking at a web page last night where a guy opened a bunch of accounts and put movies into his queue. His existing account (several months old) would say "long wait" for some movies while they'd ship immediatly with the new one.

The moral is, cancel every two months and reopen your account if you like the service.

just learn to time the mailings and you won't have to worry about waiting for new movies 😉

*hint: they will mail a tuesday release on monday..

netflix is great, i dont have to spend an hour or two a week at blockbuster with my wife anymore 😀
We quit playing that game LONG ago. Now, we use The Internet Movie Database to pick out a movie, call our local mom & pop video store to make sure it's in, then go grab it for $2.65 rental. We get one movie every Friday night, IF we can find one! It's getting harder and harder. I have no idea what we'd use Netflix for. We'd have a pile of obscure movies laying around, and no time to watch them, I guess. 😕
