I always thought it would be cool. What are your thoughts? Is it easy? Is it worth the $50*75 for the right to fly? Anyway to get it cheaper or paid for somehow?

Air force might pay for it for you. Getting a pilots licence rocks. It's expensive, but if you can afford it, most people would consider it worth it.

Go for it. Its not to expensive in the long run, and this way you'll never have to regret not doing it!

a private pilot license doesn't expire. you have to have a medical certificate to fly, but other than that all you need is a flight review with an instructor every 2 years. to carry passengers you need to do 3 landings in the previous 3 months.

for the OP, I don't know where you are, but $3750 is on the low side. there are cheaper ways to go though, like the new sport pilot rating. cheaper but you have fewer privileges.

I just did a 5-1/2 hour flight yesterday in a 172RG that cost me $550 :( it was one of the few requirements I have left for my commercial license though so hopefully it will pay off eventually.

here are a couple helpful links w/lots of info--

I assume $50 an hour for 75 hours of instruction.

He's think 50 dollars times 75 hours. 40 hours is required, but more than likely it'd take more like 50-55 hours. So it'd probably be actually flopped 75 dollars times 50 hours. and 75 dollars is pretty cheap for an hour rental. he failed to include the instructor fees too. tack on around another 20 dollars an hour.

Yep, when i first started taking lessons (Pompano Beach, FL) we were paying ~$65/hr w/ instructor.... After a little restructuring, it went up to almost $105/hr w/ instructor... :(

wow .. 50$ is really cheap.. Here in CT, I pay 150 dollars and even though its really expensive, its a great feeling to be able to fly! I say, go for it if you have the money!

I was under the impressoin that a flight review was needed every 3 years for people under 40 and 2 years for people over 40...
