I'm interested in playing CS but I was wondering if my setup could handle it. I have a 533 celeron with integrated graphics. Also I'm on a dialup, so is it worth it?
depends, do the integrated graphics chipset support d3d or opengl? and, how is your connection? if you constantly get spikes, an online game such as cs might not be for you. there are always bots...
No matter how much ass kissing I do, I don't think my parents will buy a new house in an area where broadband is available. They are quite happy out where it is quiet at night. Especially since I'm going to college in the fall.
yeah, as long as your connection is stable, and your line is clean, you should be good to go. i used to play on 56k, and it wasn't THAT bad. i just wouldn't play against top clan members w/ sub 100 ping times. it starts to get a little bit hard then
Just don't plan on using the sniper rifles on your dial-up. Everything else with practice you could use great on a dial-up connection. Your CPU is just fine the game came out when 400-450 cpu's were all the rage.
I say try it out with your current system setup, then if you like it... go and get a $30 VooDoo3 PCI card... or if you have extra funds get a Geforce2 MX card. Either one of these will make your system VERY playable. If/When you become an addict like some of us, then go for the Geforce2 Ultra or Geforce3 64MB...
i was puttin up amazing ratios with integrated graphics...and p2 333 running in software mode. but i had t1 connection. dial up might be tough but a few cheats can get you playing like a veteran.
CS is alot of fun, especially when you play with people you know, or the people from here. I really love playing with my family and friends, nothing like busting a cap in those you loves asses.
Dialup should be ok,I use 56k modem still & can get good ping rate depending on the CS server infact I get good ping rate even in UT deathmatch which is very fast compared to CS,just watchout for Girlfriday in Neo`s CS, she will steal your Colt rifle so shoot first & ask questions later
If you check my sys specs I have a dial-up of 28.8 and I just started running my Celery 566 at its stock speed instead of 850 just to see how much of a performance hit on frames.
I average on a ping of 220 (w/c really blows), but if you're in a game with people with similar ping it's alright. When you start playing with LPB, that's when trouble starts and you're in a world of hurt.
But I'd still average around 2 hrs of CS on any given day. That's how fun it is. Dust and Dust 2 are my favorite maps.
