Should I get insurance for moving out to the Dorm ?

isekii

Lifer
moving into the dorm in 3 days.

Should I purchase property insurance ?

The only things of worth I can see is

My laptop
My Desktop + 1800FP LCD
Possibly a Canon S200.

Do they cover stolen wallets and such as well ?

How secure are your dorms? My dorm room has a very strong door and a very good lock. The building locks up at midnight and you can't get in without a room key. The information desk is a 24 hour one too. Everyone in this hallway is close to each other too so we keep an eye out. Most homeowner insurance does basic coverage of dorm room contents.

We have a renters policy already, I wonder if that'll cover dorm.
I'll have to check with my insurance agent.

I'm moving into a suite with 3 other people.
Not too sure how far apart the rooms are, i'll find out on the 31st.

My parents told me that their homeowner's insurance covered my dorm room so I had no need for additional insurance.

Cool that means that My renters should most likely cover it too 😉

My parents' homeowners policy covered my stay in the dorm. I made sure to call their agent before leaving to confirm the information. There was a $500 deductible though, and the most expensive thing in my room was only $1600 (my computer + flat panel monitor), so it would have been pretty useless anyway.

My parents checked on it before I moved into the dorm three years ago and their homeowner's insurance covered up to a certain value of things in the dorm. I can't remember what the value was, though.
