Should I get ECC or Non-Parity Ram for a Dual CPU system using Abit VP6?

As the title states. Should I go ECC or Non-Parity? Which one is recommended? Since Crucial is having their nice sale prices, the difference between them is less than $2.00. LMK, thanks! :D

I'd definitely get ECC if my motherboard supported it and the price difference was small because memory tests (expecially the power-up test) don't detect all errors, and I've seen mysterious subtle data errors go on for months because of bad memory.

Quote from the VP6 FAQ:

<< Q. Does VP6 support ECC memory modules? >>

<< VP6(BIOS:UR)does not support ECC memory modules >>

It said that it doesn't support ECC memory in the UR Bios (the first and only (??) release for the VP6)

I wrote an email to their support 3 days ago and here is prove from their tech support (I just got this email earlier today)

<< The VP6 does not support ECC memory module; however, you can use ECC memory module but the ECC feature will be disable automatically. At this point, we do not have any information about the next BIOS update on the VP6. We do recommend our customer to use identical CPUs for our dual CPU motherboard, even though it might work if you clock the processors to the clock speed of the slower CPU. >>

I wanted to get this motherboard because I'm planning on building a Database Server with Dual PIII 800EB using two 40GB Quantum Fireball Plus AS 7200rpm ATA100 drive mirrored (RAID-100) I wanted to get the most stable FFPGA board WITH RAID-1 support out there and possibly use ECC memory (which turns me more toward the direction of MSI's Dual Socket motherboard) but I'm not sure if ECC is worth it for my Database Server use or can I live w/o it?

From what I've read, the MSI and the Abit board are both very stable, so I'm having problem choosing between the Abit and the MSI motherboard. Here is an analysis of both motherboard (I ruled out Asus because of the lack of ATA100RAID controller)

-1-
MSI is cheaper, and it supports ECC memory right out of the box.
Abit is more expensive (relatively speaking - but still is a very good price) but it doesn't support ECC right out of the box (and maybe it will never be supported)

-2-
Abit uses Highpoint ATA100-RAID controller which I've heard that it can be problematic (unconfirmed). It supports RAID 0, 1, and 10 (aka 0+1)
MSI uses the Promise ATA100-RAID LITE (optional!!! you have to buy the AR version or the AIR version to get the RAID controller - but the AR version is STILL cheaper than the Abit pricewise - BUT what do they mean by the LITE version (I know that the BIOS is different... that's all I know.) It supports RAID 0 and 1 only.

-3-
MSI uses an older southbridge. From what I know, the on-chip controller only supports ATA33/66 (not ATA100) while the Abit uses newer chipset (less bugs? maybe?) that supports ATA33/66/100. (not much of a problem here. I'm just worry about the "older chipset")

Please help me choose which motherboard to get. If you can provide additional facts that maybe helpful for me in deciding which motherboard to get. Please reply! =)

Also, from Promise's website, I saw that they have "HOT SWAPPABLE" controller and "SUPERSWAP" drive chassis. Can I unplug the ATA100 drives to SWAP a new drive in in case one of the drive fails w/o powering the machine down using the PROMISE ATA100 RAID LITE controller found on the MSI motherboard? and how about the Highpoint controller? (sorry, SCSI is too expensive... and besides, I already bought two 40GB ATA100 already) And how does the two RAID controller behaves inside windows2000? (are they pretty much the same? with Error reporting inside W2K's Computer Manager Console? I know that AMI has such a utility because I have an AMI MG80649 IDE RAID controller manual in front of me which I've borrowed from my friend who has the Single T-bird CPU motherboard, KA266-R.. does Hightpoint and MSI provide such an utility?)

Another thing is shall I wait for the Iwill DVD266-R motherboard (it looks promising.. w/ DDR support and Dual CPU!) which will come out anytime soon! (they emailed me and told me that "It is not available until end of March" which is [almost] the end of March already!)

(Boy, I've written an essay already!!! anyway... Please comment as much as possible.)
