Yeah, I'm aware that the Iwill's out of production, I haven't been able to find any listed on pricewatch or such. Would likely be my first choice, but if it's too hard to find, I'll settle with the MSI.

Errr, wrong on both counts. The MPX requires registered for more than 2 sticks of DDR. It can use 2 sticks of unregistered just fine.

The Iwill MPX2 can hit some high FSB speeds, but this pretty much disallows the use of the PCI/66 slots. The MSI can control 4 of the 5 FID bits, which IMO is far more useful. Allows it control 5x-12.5x or 13x-21.5x depending on the configuration of the chip (Basically, chip has to have the fifth FID bit set low or high manually.)

Well imho i would get a set of Xeons 2.4/2.66Ghz with the 533FSB. They go from $245-315 and are great performers, with nice motherboard extras (2x 100Mhz PCI-X slots!!!) and DC DDR 200/266. ANd dont forget hyperthreading, its not that bad and gives a good 5-10% boost in some apps. Then grab intels E7505 board for $460 and a bunch of PC2100 ECC sticks and your good to go. just my $.02

You're mentioning over $1,000 worth of equipment there, just a bit over my allowed budget of $300-400 on CPU/memory.

Well for me if your gunna build a server for MORE then just saying "i have duel cpus" and wanting to run intensive apps with ease then get a Xeon. Hyperthreading shows great performance in photoshop and my fav 3dstudio max The shear force of the New P4 is amazing, but if you do need a low priced server that will get the job done im behind you 100% get a amd setup. I just cant wait for the Prescott Xeon so I can run 3dstudio max so much more flawlessly then now *drool*

If we had more money available for such things, I'd certainly get the highest end stuff available for him, but it isn't. I'm going to go snoop around and find some reviews comparing various dually setups and also dual vs. single for things like video encoding, I'll try to find what's worth the money before making the final decision.
