Should I get an ipod shuffle?

-I don't need 20GB of storage, I have no problems with updating my player here and there
-I think spending $200+ on an MP3 player is a huge waste of money(and I'm not exactly stingy with money, especially with electronics)
-My primary use would be lifting/running, where size and weight are huge factors

Yes/no?

Yea, but if I'm just using it as something to occupy me while I'm working out, do I really need one?

Go for it....especially if you just load up your favorite singles instead of entire CDs. If you like every song on it, does it really matter if it has a screen or not?

no.. if you can wait, competition should be releasing similar products, only with a lcd and maybe FM tuner.

for your needs, i would say go for it. the price isn't too bad for a 512mb/1gb player anyways

nup- i went through the same dilemma a few days ago-but you have to spend so much to get a decent size (1gb) that it's far to much to pay for a (admittedly awesome looking) flash player with no screen- for about $60 AUD more you can get a mini ipod-4gb/screen+ looks at least as cool if not more so...

wait...if you don't mind getting the 512mb- then it looks pretty attractive-'cos of the price, its just the 1gb one that doesnt really seem to make sense...

Get the Sony one. It has a cool OLED screen and has 50hrs battery life and it supports mp3's.

Or just get the shuffle. If you don't need a screen and can live with it, it wold be for you.

lol deeko i was in this same position 2 weekends ago. i ended up getting the shuffle, in the 512mb size.

it is great. i need it for your same exact uses pretty much. i am walking again and now can go back to the gym. i was going to go tonight for the firs ttime in 7 weeks but i can't because of my grand fathers wake. tomorrow after his funeral and services i am going to go to the gym and put it to the actual use i got it for, working out.

i can tell you this thing is tiny. i am waiting to get the matching armband when it is finally out (wasn't available when i got mine, dont think it still is yet). it is great though in the pocket.

for weight lifting and exercising, i can't see one that would work better than this one. the whole "there's no screen" thing is not a problem at all. i dont know bout you, but when i work out, i just push play and leave it on until i am done working out. i did this with my discman when i was using it. so i don't see why i would need an LCD or anything.

go for it, its worth it.

No, I would not get the Shuffle. The machine is problematic, it loses power randomly and this is not isolated. Look on their forum, there are new posts daily about this happening. I sent my first one back as it would lose power until I plugged it in a USB port and my replacement has already started doing the same thing.

I personnally believe there is a defect in the way it's made, either with the battery or the connectors, but the problem is too common for it to be a coincidence.

NO! Read the numerous previous threads about this, most of which (if not all), I have made the case against the shuffle and for other players.

Basically, with other players you get:
- FM tuner
- Voice Recording
- A screen (yes, it is a useful feature)
- Ability to use as a USB thumbdrive
- No need for horrible proprietary software, just drag, drop, and go.

all for less $$

So then, what's the best player for the gym? I'm currently using the Rio S35 with some extra mem. I'm happy with it despite it's uncanny ability to get jarred with the hold button in place. I clearly need something that can tolerate they gym and the steam room (under a towel).

- FM tuner

Haven't listened to radio in 8years

- Voice Recording

Never use it

- A screen (yes, it is a useful feature)

OK, might be useful, then again I never use the screen on my Muvo2 because it is so hard to read

- Ability to use as a USB thumbdrive

Check

- No need for horrible proprietary software, just drag, drop, and go.

Actually would be a plus for me, I already use iTunes for my music library. Not having to drag and drop, just being able to select which playlist to upload would be helpful.

Guess I'm getting a Shuffle:)

Eh, with the Shuffle, you can drag and drop.

Since I love iTunes, and I needed music for the gym, I ordered a 1GB iPod Shuffle a couple of weeks ago. It is a solution that perfectly fits the problem. I could spend a lot more time hunting for something with more unneeded features and save a few dollars, but I decided my time is worth something to me.

do they sell them in the US? my friend got the shuffle, I recommended it since they like to listen at the gym. boy was that a mistake, didn't know you needed to use itunes (or special software) to move mp3 files on and off the thing. And if you are using 2 computers you better make sure the mp3 files (in itunes) are on both before syncing the shuffle or you could erase your music stored on the shuffle by syncing to a new computer.

I'm in the market for a flash memory player. Which model is this that you are referring too?

Isn't that the most annoying thing ever? I totally wiped some guy's iPod the other day when I plugged it into somebody else's computer that had iTunes on it.
