I use my computer for:
Neffing
Working from home
Gaming (just WC3 right now)
Music/movies

Should I get an A64 or dual core Opteron? There's about a $130 difference between a 3700+ and an Opteron 165

Neffing is especially computationally intensive. It just might be worth going dually.

Seriously though, it depends on your budget. For gaming, the second core remains largely untapped, however, you may be able to alt-tab and commence the neffing with WoW toiling away, or ripping/encoding music or movies. In the future, software will become more multi-threaded, so it just might be like a free upgrade (or as close to the definition as possible since you'd have paid extra for it up front :D).

For your uses even a 3200+ would be fine, I'd say... If you don't at all mind spending the money and plan on keeping the CPU for several years, you might go for the dual-core just to have it when you might actually start using it in the future. But for what you listed, you wouldn't really be using the second core much.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Unecessary. Go for an Opteron if you're comfortable with overclocking. Otherwise go with the X2. X2s are rumored to be better with games but definitely worse overclockers. You might get lucky though. That or wait for quad cores =)
