I've been thinking about it, and my monetary supply is dwindling as I speak. The way I see it is that I can either get a tux, or go there lookin like a scrub in a suit.

Pros for a tux:
Looks better than a suit
slightly makes me look better
VERY slightly increased chance that I get laid

Cons:
Costs too damn much
I probably WON'T get any
I don't have a date (yet), so it doesn't matter as much.

So whaddaya think? I could post pix, but I doubt that matters.

Actually, some tux rental companies would pay for your tux if you referred enough people to them. That's how I got mine...referred about 7ppl

Well, one of the chicks I know said go with a Tuxedo T-Shirt :disgust:

Anyways, you can get money for referrals, but you see, everyone's already got their tux, so that's not gonna work.

And regarding the date thing, the prom is on april 12th, which is next week. Spring Break is this week, so I doubt I can find a date. And the week of prom i'm going to a science fair in Jacksonville from Wednesday to Saturday. So it's kinda hard to find a date in 2 school days. I was thinking about going with friends, but they don't want any from me :(

Rental is the only way to go. The only thing you have to buy are the socks.

You must rent a tux. You must buy a corsage for your date. These are accepted practices

What's your budget? Unless you're in the middle of a huge growth spurt, buying is definitely a far better idea than rental. It doesn't cost that much more; you'll get something that fits, looks, and feels better (and wasn't worn by who knows how many people before you), and the next time a formal event rolls around you'll be set. If you decide to do this and want help picking one out I can post something about that.

also, few other tips for standing out:

-get a black bowtie, don't go for weird colors or patterns.
-learn to tie a bowtie and buy a real one; it looks much better and almost no high school guy will know how to do it.
-wear a pocket square; it can just be a plain white handkerchief, but it adds a nice touch to your outfit.

You should RENT a tux for your prom. Don't ever buy a tux, unless you live in NY and go to something very formal every weekend. Otherwise, it's such a waste, and IMO very very gay.

And don't get a non-backed vest. Don't be a little bitch, get a manly vest. Go for forest green, with her having a purple dress. She didn't let you choose it? Well, you need to teach her a lesson.
