Should I get a Titan 4x4??

IGBT

..I've owned Dodge full size and presently drive a 92 Dakota 5.2 L v8 4x4. It's been a great truck but wondering about the future of Chrysler and really like the configuration packages of the Titan. Any Titan owners here??

A co-worker has one and also another friend. While they do love them, they are absolute gas hogs..... The Titan has a great drivetrain and power like crazy.....

Here are a couple of resources my buddy gave me that you might want to read: Titantalk forums.

And also: Titan Truckz.

I wouldn't worry too much about Chrysler right now. They have gotten through a lot rougher times than this 😉

Nissan gave my buddy ALL of his money back (and lawyer fees) after they couldn't keep brakes on the truck.

Every 8-10k it needed all the pads and rotors replaced (f & b). Nothing the dealer ever did changed this. Really ashame. It was a beautiful truck, with loads of balls!

Nissan Titan Brakes @ Google

He bought the second model year......maybe they fixed this problem ???

BTW: LOVE my 05 F150 FX4 link

..I still like the Dodge trucks. The big attraction the Titan has for me is it's overall configuration. It has every heavy duty feature I want in it's standard 4x4 config.where as the Dodge dollars me to death with costly optional add on's. Amazing American mfgr's won't compete head on with US produced "foreign" mfgrs.

I have an Armada because I have stock in all of the major oil companies. It does suck down gas but with 2 kids, their 'stuff' and a slobbery Lab, we need the room.

Anyway we bought a 1st year model and the brakes did indeed suck. After warping every 1K miles Nissan installed re-designed rotors. I believe this might have been done after the 2nd year models were introduced.

I have not had any major issues with the truck since.

..if you have a growing family you need a vehicle that can safely move them around. Never feel guilty about providing for and protecting your family.

fwiw, you might be able to pull some heavy incentives with chrysler/ford/gm. definitely check out all your options, though, and good luck with the hunt, OP! 🙂

Trust me there is no guilt here. In fact I have a Bull-Bar on the front for those pesky small cars... 😀

The earlier years (first year, maybe 2nd) had brake problems. They put Frontier brakes on those trucks.

Later models supposedly they put bigger brakes.
Same with Armada.

My brother has a Titan, and he's been incredibly happy with it. He's modded things significantly (not in a ricer/cosmetic way), and has loads of info I'm sure he'd be willing to share with you. I'll PM you his email. Happy hunting!

My dad has an 05 SE 4x2 Extended Cab. Its driven maybe 3 times a week. Only problem has been the brakes. But that should be fixed in the new models. They have a whole kit that addresses this problem from nissan with the updated rotors and pads. Its got about 11k miles on it.

Apparently Nissan makes some very unreliable trucks/SUV's. Just because it's made by a Japanese brand doesn't mean it will be reliable. I would suggest checking out the Tundra, if interested in Japanese trucks. I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra V6 2WD 4AT, with 74K miles. It has given me NO problems whatsoever. Just normal maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, tune-up at 60K, etc.), and it has been running like a champ.

I scrounged up a used grill guard for mine, makes those 4 way stops o so much more fun when someone tries to bull their way through 😀

Don't know what to say about the Titan, not my personal choice, and I don't see that many of them.

IIRC, Dodge is doing better than the other 2 American brands and they just came out with that lifetime powertrain warranty. Might be worth another look.

05 Titan owner here. I've been quite pleased with mine. As for the gas hog comment I saw earlier, I've seen 19mpg on the highway with it. That's pretty damned good for a 5.6 V8 pushing that kind of weight around.

$5,000 rebate on 07s

$2500 or 3500 on 08s

..that's what I'm looking at too. I just can't get over how well they are configured. everything's there.

I say no because I hate the way Titans look, and I hate Nissan. I have no logic to back up my answer, just unbridled hatred.

Thanks.

😕

"apparently"... because of what?

I'm a happy Frontier owner, it's been a very good little truck.

The Frontier is a little truck. The Titan, Armada, and Infinity QX are very unreliable, according to CR.

Seems like decent price! I'm assuming it's got the spray in bed & rail package too?

I've got a Frontier LE and I don't think I could own another truck without the rail system in the bed. It's just too damn handy.
