I haven't seen any 2125 failures personally, but yes, I hate those freaking thumbsticks!Originally posted by: TechnoPro
I own the SMT 5600. For what it's worth, I am constantly deploying BlackBerries, Treos and Smart Phones for my clients, so I have pretty much played with everything on the market.
Reasons I bought and still keep the SMT 5600:
* Small size, lightweight
* Fits nicely in one hand / all functions easily accessible with one handed use
* Seamless integration with MS Outlook (both via USB and wirelessly)
* Good battery life.
* Clear, legible screen (degrades slightly in direct, bright sunlight, but most devices do)
* It's T9 implementation more than makes up for it being a non-QWERTY device
* I prefer Windows Mobile platform over the others
* Durability - I have dropped this puppy onto concrete a few times. Light scratches only, and no internal issues.
Issues I have with it:
* Cameraphone is not great. Doesn't bug me, but some people want phones with sharper cameras
* Not as fast or as responsive as other newer devices. I guess that's a given realtive to it's size and age.
The Cingular 2125 is an updated SMT 5600, branded by Cingular. That said, the updates have killed the phone. I have noticed a failure rate on the 2125s higher than any other device. The little thumbstick is junk, the fonts are not consistent in the interface, they added an ugly antenna and "concealed" power button to the top. This power button is impossible to press. The first one I ever came across I thoguht was defective since I could not power it on/off without 2 hands and great force. So I went to Cingular to see what was up. The sales people had the same issue, but claimed it was to prevent accidental power offs.
Let me know if you have specfic questions.

That is bizarre. Never heard any reports of that over in the MDA/SDA forum at Howard Forums. Do Cingular phones pull down the time from the towers? I could see something weird happening if the device's time changed if the flight was to a different time zone.Originally posted by: TechnoPro

Imagine this: Your 2125 is set to sync via Wireless Active Sync . Works like a charm. Hop on a plane, turn off the phone, and when you get to your destination, the phone no longer syncs. A quick glance at the settings reveals that there are no wireless active sync settings - they vanished in transit.
Once I reentered the settings, I tested the unit by having the user power the device off for an extended period (overnight) to simulate the duration of a flight. Upon powerign it on, it worked fine. Leave town, settings vanish. Exchanged phone, same exact thing. Tech support was clueless, and fed me with drivel. Granted, it's not an easy problem to replicate, but it's a fatal flaw. Saw it with 3 phones, then I gave up on it for good.
