Should I get a new PSU?

I have a prebuilt computer, but I have done a lot of upgrades to it. It came stock with a 300W PSU. It has:

Sempron 3200+ Socket 939
80GB IDE HDD
300GB IDE HDD
Corsair 1GB (2x512)
1 CD Burner
1 DVD Burner

I just purchased an X800XL and am going to install it, will I need a new PSU or can 300W handle it? If I try to boot with the 300W what will happen? Will it just not turn on or will it fry components?

According to the eXtreme PSU Calculator your system is around 250W w/ the components you listed. You can use the calculator to add the PCI cards and fans. I don't know if you're overclocking, but if you are, it's suggested you buy a better PSU. Something in the 400W range should do nicely. What's your budget on a PSU? If you wanna go cheap, the Fortron 400W at newegg will do nicely. For a bit more, you can get the Enhance ENP-5140GH from ewiz.com.

If its a good PSU then it's no problem. If its a lower-quality PSU your system could simply refuse to boot, not operate stably, or if it's real junk go up in flames and potentially damage other hardware.

Ok well I don't know the exact brand or model in my PC right now. But tomorrow I will check. I won't be overclocking. I don't want to spend a lot, because I will be building a new system around the end of this year. Is this the Fortron PSU you where talking about?

I was looking at the AX400-PN, the one you linked doesn't have a PCI-E connector. Some X800XL need the PCI-E connectos, some don't.
