Should I get a new power supply?

Currenly in my system I have the BFG 1000w ps (the company is gone) which I heard from quite a few people on different forums is just a rebranded Ultra 1000w which are horrible. Everything is working great right now but should I be looking for some more reliable brand on my hardware, one that still has support? I just don't want this thing to explode on me randomly. Yes I am looking to OC soon and also would like something with lots of room to grow.

Here's the one I have, and you can see there's quite a lot of bad feedback about it on there.

1000W is overkill for your current rig.

a quality psu such as HX850 can handle most of SLI/cf

A 1kW PSU for $99? Now that is just so wrong as it is too cheap for a 1kW PSU. You can look for any 850W PSU from Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, PC P&C and Antec. Not really necessary to have a 1kW PSU as a 850W PSU can handle GTX580 2 way SLi. Since you already have a GTX570 and I am guessing you're going for a GTX570 SLi in the future the 1kW PSU is way more than you will need so a 850W or less PSU will fit your needs.

Probably not, I've never went sli, always end up buying a new card instead. Infact my current board doesn't support sli only crossfire.

And actually I spent $199 for this PS (retail from BB) I think just recently it's dropped to 99

Hmm how odd as I always thought that Intel boards are able to support SLi/Crossfire or at least SLi but to support Crossfire only which is weird. According to Asus your board does support CF only but with a 4x second PCIE slot I wouldn't even consider CF or SLi. Since you will only be using a single GPU you can get a 700W instead which is more than enough for a single GTX570 or GTX580.

Currenly in my system I have the BFG 1000w ps (the company is gone) which I heard from quite a few people on different forums is just a rebranded Ultra 1000w which are horrible.

Ultra has had good and bad PSUs. Their good PSUs were made by Andyson. Your BFG PSU is also made by Andyson. It is by no means a "horrible" PSU.

BTW if you didn't know, Ultra does not make PSUs. Thus, no other company can "rebranded Ultra."

BFG does not make PSUs either. Corsair, Antec, PC Power & Cooling, OCZ and Thermaltake also do not make PSUs. However, there are PSUs branded and marketed by all these companies as theirs. This is the reality of the current PSU market.

Everything is working great right now but should I be looking for some more reliable brand on my hardware, one that still has support? I just don't want this thing to explode on me randomly.

Just because it is no longer supported doesn't mean that it will just magically blow up. That notion is ridiculous.

Buy a new PSU if your current one fails or no longer meets your needs.

Here's the one I have, and you can see there's quite a lot of bad feedback about it on there.

Almost half of the bad "reviews" were just warn that BFG is no longer in business. That's not feedback on the actual product.

It was a $200 PSU when BFG was still in business. Does this magically change your opinion of it?

No didn't change my opinion of it. I was in the market for a new psu asap which pretty much around here leads me straight to best buy. Both of the previous ones I owned was OCZ Modstream or GameXstream and they either died or lost half their voltage (didn't even have enough to boot the system). I saw the BFG 1000w was huge and decided to get it, can't go wrong with too much power.

On the flip side the company is no longer active, not under support/warranty so if it goes I'd be out, not that it was a whole lot of money but still.

I don't get it. If there's nothing wrong with your PSU, why do you want to replace it. It might not be the "best" 1000W PSU out there, but it's still a 1000W PSU. It's not gonna blow up on you. I'd just do my upgrades, try my OC and then if the system is unstable and it can't be pointed at the overclocking, THEN I'd look at replacing it. Until then, you're just wasting money.

Uh like people stated, this is no rebranded ultra. Just because they both sourced from Andyson doesn't make them the same. BFG had some decent quality psus, one of the mods here jonny actually worked on them. I don't think he would have wanted to release crap. In fact I'd totally keep it and use it for at least a few more years. Unlike ultra, I don't think they used lowest quality crap from the oem.
