Ok, basically here is my question.. I currently have a 19" Dell that is around 6 years old. It still performs well running right now and 1152x864 at 85hrz now I know thats basically on the video card, but just wanted to let you know what im running.

I have been looking at a 21 or 22" monitor, viewsonic or something. With my radeon 9800 I feel I could run at higher res's around 1600 or so, but what im wondering is will I have to be running my games at a higher res just to make up for the bigger size.. (which I know i would) since I dont want to play HL2 at 1024x768 on a big monitor, its ok on my 19" but on something that big I probably would want to make sure its going to look good but also make sure that my system can handle a bigger res just to make up for the bigger size. I certainly dont want to comprimise graphics just for a bigger size. However, the monitor is old and I would like to get something bigger since I really cant hook it up to my 35" tv. Then again alot of people would say that a 19" monitor would be enough, but if possible id want bigger..what do you think?

.20 is for horizontal dp. Another one of Samsung deceptive spec practice. Most monitor manufacturers use diagonal dp. Samsung list horizontal dp in order to fool people into thinking their dot pitch is way better than everyone else when it's not. Plus you really have to compare dp of similar monitor techs. eg. Shadowmask vs Shadowmask. Aperature Grill vs Aperature Grill. That said Samsung 997DF is decent Shadowmask monitor. Dynoflat gives the impression of completely flat screen.

As to the OP question, I would keep using your 19" Dell if it still performs well. Also playing 1024x768 on 22" CRT is perfectly fine. CRT don't really have native resolution like LCD.
