Should I get a new HS + Fan // Check inside for details

Hi I got a question about keeping my old HS + Fan

I have a AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz now.

I just got a AMD XP 2100+ and was wondering if i could keep the old HS + Fan that i have now.

I don't plan on over clocking the cpu

As of right now my cpu temp is 40 C
Probably will go higher if i put more stress on it.
Also right now i am using a Zalman CNPS 5000

Please let me know if it is possible for me to keep the old HS + Fan that i have now with out damaging the new CPU.

Venom - I'm assuming that by 2.1ghz you mean either 2100+ (PR confusion) or ~2600+ (actual speed). Either way, the CNPS 5000 should be able to handle them, as the classic Athlon (.... what was that core called....) took greater vCore than the new TBred-Bs.

Venom,

Minendo is right, you don't need another HSF...

In case you did not know, the Athlon XP core is good well into 90C ( 94 i believe )
Now not to say that it will be stable at that temp, it will definitely be well within spec at 55-60C...

- Assuming it gets that high under load.

Stick with what you have, if you go to overclock then you might want to consider one.

Try it and see how the temps are, it won't kill anything. I imagine that it'll work alright at default speeds, but you'll definately need something better if you're overclocking or live in a hot environment.

I'll try out my old HS + Fan on the new chip and if it gets too hot i'll get a new one

Thermalright SP-97 looks good to me

Sounds fair to me, my parents don't know how to use a computer so i'm sure you will have a ton more use for it than my parents.
