Should I get a new Hard Drive?

Back when I built my PC, I screwed up and did not partition my 30GB 7200rpm IDE HDD. I now have the OS, all aplications and a ton of MP3s on the C drive. I would like to have my OS on a clean partition or separate drive.

Would it be worthwhile to get a small 8GB or less 5400rpm drive and use it to boot from?

Would this provide me with any benefits other than the ability to do a clean OS install from time to time?

Thanks.

I think you should pick up a older 5400 Rpm harddrive and use that for your Mp3's. You should really have the faster
drive run the OS and main apps.

Wtf, after anadtech did his server upgrades everything is slow as hell now

I dunno if speed should necessarily be the deciding factor for storing your mp3's. I tend to store/backup my mp3's to my newest HD, regardless of what size or speed. An OS is easily replaceable, MP3's are not. It is really nice though having a boot partition or a smaller HD, but I would recommend just getting a full-blown new HD and making a small 2-5 gig boot partition. Use the rest of the space for mp3s, games, whatever. I just bought a new Maxtor D740X 40 giger for $90 about a month ago with my 8KHA+, and it rocks!! 24877 score under Sandra and its soooo quiet. The smaller drivers weren't as good a value (easy way to tell is how many gigs you get per buck), and this is currently the highest performing IDE HD around.
