Should I get a new hard drive

I'm about to order some new pc parts, and I'm considering replacing my hd. But, is it really worth it? I have a 80gig WD with only 2mb cache. Would upgrading to sata and 8mb of cache be worth it? I've read that sata doesn't have much real world performance. Money is an issue so how big of a deal is it to change my hd.

If things are running fine for you at the moment, no need to replace it. An 8MB buffer would definitely help, though if you got one, run the two drives side by side.

How old is the hard drive. I have heard that past 3 years, you can't trust a hard drive (thats may not always be true, depending on the brand). SATA is an improvement. Personally, i would select it over IDE, but it is up to you. You make the call. If your hd has been under a lot of stress (video editing for example), then maybe you would want to get a new HD. its up to you. Just giving you my thoughts. Check out Tomshardware and anandtech, and see what they recommend doing.
