Should I get a Logitech G500?

I have a Performance MX and the ergonomics doesn't seem too good for gaming, or just general use. And I just found out about the G500 and that it has hyper scrolling, which is awesome cause I don't think I can live without it now.

Question is: Is the design more like that 518 or Performance? I can't really tell from the pictures.

My G5's cord finally started doing the usual disconnect thing (like the 6 MX518s preceding it), so i got the G500, since the G5 is very hard to find.

As a pure gaming mouse, i'd say it's worse overall.

Side buttons are awkwardly placed compared to previous MX518/G5 & easier to accidentally hit.
Not to mention less separation between them.

DPI setting at least is remembered due to the onboard memory i imagine, whereas w/ the older ones you constantly have to alter it from default if you don't choose to install the SetPoint crapware.

I actually prefer the G500's thumb buttons compared to my MX510 (same layout as 518). I have had the G500 for a few months now, and have never mishit a thumb button. Course it all depends on hand position, so there are probably plenty of opinions there.

I can't believe they stopped producing the best mouse ever(g5). I bought a mx518 cause it is the same shape and virtually the same button placement, but it is just not the same. The clicking is not as smooth, and it just isn't as snappy.

i like the G500, but the sensitivity buttons are right near the left click button and i occasionally hit them by accident. very bad design flaw, imo.
