I currently have a Celeron but I was thinking about upgrading. I saw this nice laptop with a Centrino processor on ebay. Are the Centrinos that much better than my Celeron?

I dont think they are called Centrino processors. I beleive this is a common mistake made due to Intel's marketing being so damn good! Lets ask BobDaMenkey for some input!

And make sure for top performance it is not made with a Intel Pentium Core 2 duo... I hear those really suck, compared to the Centrino's at least :p

I have a Sony Viao with a Centrino Core Duo CPU. Performs nicely and uses very little energy. Plus, its upgradeable to Merom (Core2Duo Mobile w/4mb L2)

And best of all, I won it!

Centrino is not at all a processor. If a laptop has a centrino sticker, it makes it certified to be a centrino laptop. I think it to be considered a centrino is that it has to have intel pro wireless, and a pentium M proccessor. So really its a pentium M.

Yes.

But remember, GHz is the only thing that matters when buying. So, a 3 GHz processor is ALWAYS faster than a 2 GHz processor.

That is why MAC sucks so bad (I'm showing respect by capitalizing it).

:p

Edit: How many parodies do you think we can cram into one thread?

Get the pentium M processor if you need the better battery life, the performance difference isn't tangible for applications you SHOULD be running on the laptop. If you're playing games, video encoding, etc. then it would be worth it, the only thing the Pentium M has going for it that the celeron does for most uses on a laptop is battery life.
