With the Kindle Fire HD at $299, I cannot blindly recommend the iPad to anyone anymore. Especially with Windows 8 tablets, it's a difficult decision.

if you don't plan on wanting to root it for android. I would go with a used ipad 2 for 300. I actually found a used ipad 3 for 325 recently in Miami.
better apps .....end of story.

I've always had a lot of problems with WiFi Syncing. It kept reopening iTunes or popping it back into the foreground on my desktop. It was just really annoying. When I disabled it, it made my device completely unable to sync with iTunes, and I had to use some crazy method to even get it to work again.
