should I get a giant pickup instead of another compact car?

Feels like a urban arms race out there and my weapon is kind of small. :Q

I originally wanted to buy another corolla/prizm or celica, but I had a thought, what if I got a giant truck.

If you like gas mileage don't buy a big pickup.

Do you have a need for the pickup? If not, then don't get it.

Unless of course by giant you mean a dump truck, fire engine, or garbage truck.... :)

Get a big truck with a jacked-up suspension and you will score with a hot chick named Curtis.

I got an F 150 at the end of April and love it. My average cost to fill up is around $35.00, not $50.00.

I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee and can fill up for about $25 bucks. 6 Cylinder with a 17 gallon tank.

Many good-sized trucks have a V6 or inline 6 that will the the job and save you gas milage. Check em out, but remember you'll lose cargo space. Maybe you could get a truck and keep your current car. You probably won't get much back on trade anyhow...

I just went through this debate....

For the record I drive a 96 Saturn SC2 (check out My Saturn) before you judge....

I was going to go to a Bronco like my Dad's (he is building to a 408 cubic inch stroker)...or a 944 turbo.

After figuring it out I decided even though I need alot of maintenance at 100k miles my car would be cheaper to keep and just as fun.

I do have a 'rare' econobox though (only 1000 in my color/style).

I have a 1995 Toyota truck that gets 22.85 miles to the gallon (last I calculated which was last week). The gas difference comes out to like 100-200 more a year, and it's worth it for the extra passing power. Also, you will be higher up which a)is easier to see the paint on the road when it's raining, you wouldn't believe how many idiots in cars who can't see their lanes because of the glare off the road b)easier to see and hence plan a weaving through traffic route before the guy in the lamborghini does (just box him out :evil;)

I had a V8 Toyota Tundra for 2 1/2 years. It had a 26 gallon tank and cost me around $45 each time I filled up which was every 5-6 days. I got rid of it because my wife and I have a son now and it was too small in the back seat and too difficult to get the baby in and out through the stupid suicide doors found on most extended cab trucks. I wasn't too keen on the 13-14mpg either especially with gas prices as high as they are in Southern California right now. I got rid of it and bought a Nissan Maxima. Much better family car, handles much better, is faster than the truck and it gets better mileage. Costs me about $26 to fill up once per week.

Get a truck if you have a need for one. Otherwise, get a car. Cars are safer and handle much better.

Lifting your truck is asking for trouble if you are ever in an accident-you are just begging to be sued and I bet your insurance company would have an out because you modified your vehicle.

Good deals to be had on new trucks. No sense buying a used one, because they hold their value too well. They're sturdy, easy to work on, and parts are cheap if you don't get a 4x4. Trucks today are more like cars in the ride quality and amenities. I'd happily buy one, but I ain't gonna pay the freight for a new one, and the used ones are priced way too high.

Personally, I feel safer driving a smaller car than I do driving a huge pickup. Small cars in general can stop faster, accelerate faster, and are simply far more agile than a big truck. I'd rather avoid an accident than "win" it.

I'd take a truck just to transport things like a TV. Then again, its a major disadvantage when someone ask you to help them move. Going back to the TV thing, I once helped a coworker load a 32 inch Panasonic TV into her Nissan Sentra. That was the worse thing I ever seen, but the TV eventually fit and she transported it.

As a girl who drives a bigass pickup truck, I would say that unless you will actually use the pickup for hauling stuff around, don't buy one. I just couldn't get along out here in the country without my truck, but I see urban cowboys living in McMansions driving trucks with all the bells and whistles just because they think they look cool. Give me a break, we all know that you've never even driven the thing on gravel, not to mention haul firewood or hay or gravel.
