Should I get a DVR or DVDR?

I want to replace the VCR to record shows everyday (around 3 hours worth). I don't need any of the fancy features that a lot of DVRs provide such as stopping live TV and such. I just want a device that's just like a VCR where you press record then stop and start watching.

I'm not too familiar with how a DVDR works. How much recording time can a DVD-RW hold? I think the advantage of it is that the storage is removable. Anyway, I need recommendations of what I should get. Needs to be relatively inexpensive ? less than $100 if possible.

And trust me you think you won't even use those features until you have them. I usually start watching all 1 hour shows about 15min late so that I can skip all of the commercials. It's great being able to watch a show while it is still recording.

I'm not going to be using the device so those features don't matter to me. It's for recording the news and a few Chinese shows for my dad to watch. And he gets home after the shows are over anyway.
