Should I get a Ducati 1098 or a car?

A bit of background:

I currently have a 1998 Ford Ranger - it has ~100k miles (so plenty of life left..) with nothing wrong w/ it other than a dent that's not worth fixing in the side and it's a 5-speed.. I have an 80 mile daily commute and would prefer an auto.. I'm thinking about getting a decent E39 and just racking up miles on it.

....Or, I could get a 1098 and suffer w/ the truck. It sure would make me feel better when stuck in traffic knowing that a beautiful Italian goddess is at home in the garage :p

Now... I know a 1098 is a big first bike (I kid, I kid... I've had plenty-o-streetbikes the past couple of years..)

Current bike (which I would keep):

That was my initial plan until I discovered Ducati has 1.99% for 72 months...

Edit:

And I don't need any financial suggestions.. :p

this makes no sense as what's going to happen in rain, you have no alternatives...and only Fonzie was a successful dater that never used an enclosed vehicle.

if you didn't you'd not need to worry about an 80mile commute.

I don't mind the commute at all.. takes me 35 min to get to work.

Get off your high-horse and get outta my thread, Troll. I see you haven't changed at all since my hiatus from ATOT.

.....And your desire to write a rushed post caused your reading comprehension skills to really disappear. Where did you get the idea that I was going to sell my car?... Actually, don't answer that.. I don't even care. ;)

Get what you want. Personally, I'd very much prefer the Ducati. What do you think would be more fun?

Well, I ride to work on average 3 days a week. I'll drive if traffic is heavy (I'm late) or it's raining.

Being that I ride more than I drive, I'm leaning towards buying the 1098 rather than buying a car and selling the truck.

I'm capable to buy a 1098 and a (new) car, but it just seems like a waste to have more than one 'nice' vehicle.

....btw, before another motorcyclist asks, insurance isn't bad at all - $650 a year for full coverage. I'm planning on buying helibars if needed for a bit more comfort.

Well then don't reply if you don't care.

If you WERE truly sporting the big bucks you'd keep the truck, get the auto, and a Ducati. Then again you'd probably wouldn't be dealing with 80mile commutes either.

Next time don't be so quick to shoot others down answering a question you have presented.

That is a sick bike! I say go for it!

I saw a 1098S yesterday at work. Some guy came over to show off his new toy to a few guys who work next door so I went out and drooled over it.

BTW-What bike is that you have now? It's not an SV (I know this because of the frame and the front end) but it is a V-Twin.

Heh if you have to chose between that or a new car, you really can't afford a desmo bike. Sorry man, but those things aren't known for reliability or easy maintenance.

In any case, I always try hard to discourage people from commuting on a bike... that's about the fastest way to donate your kidneys.

As stated in my original post - This has nothing to do with affording the bike, that is not what the thread is about.

Furthermore, (halik, alky):

People that buy new trucks... new cars, and new bikes won't stay wealthy for long. What a poor representation of whether or not someone is wealthy.

Even though it's a bit overrated, I suggest both of you read the "Millionaire Next Door". While dated, it still has plenty of relevant facts to back up my statements.

Also, spare me the 'organ donor' bit. You think I haven't heard that before? It's an accepted risk.

Hell, why not go all out...get the 1098R :D

Honestly though, you do have to be committed to wanted a Duc...the maintenance costs are really quite high for them.

They've gotten much, much better... 15k valve adjustments (or maybe 13k?)..
