I looked at what was tested on the CA real estate exam and it is fairly straightforward.

So i was wondering has anyone else got a real estate license for the heck of it? and did it help you sell your home more wisely later down the road.

thoughts?

Are you sure you can just take the exam? In my state, I think you're still required to take the classes and pay MLS dues.

You can do a correspondence thing where you buy a textbook for like 50 bucks and take an online test to "pass" the course. From there, you take the actual license exam. It took me like two weeks to read through the book, and then I took the test and passed. It's not hard.

did you become a real estate agent or did u just do it for the experience and knowledge to sell your own properties?

No I didn't. I had planned to originally, but got bogged down with college stuff. It costs a fair bit of personal cash and effort to get started as a real estate agent, which was also part of the deterrent.

Addendum: If you go the textbook route, I recommend taking detailed notes of each chapter; it helped me a lot when reviewing for the test.

In Georgia, all you have to do is take the exam (at least that was the case 15+ years ago). I had a boss whose roommate was studying feverishly for it...my boss was giving him a hard time, saying it can't be THAT hard. They ended up in a bet, and my boss spent about 2-3 hours reading the material and passing the exam. His idiot roommate flunked it.
