The Vitamix does a better job of getting soups hot, if that's your thing. I've tried doing soups in my Blendtec, and they only get lukewarm. However, my Blendtec blends better, plus it has a square container design, which makes both pouring and cleaning really easy. Also, it's extremely heavy duty. I have been hard on it and it has lasted for years. It's a huge investment though...but we went through 3 other blenders before we finally decided to purchase one. I use it every single day. It's awesome :)

Pro Tip: Fill up 1/4 with water, squirt in some liquid dishsoap, and blend - cleans your blender in 10 seconds, then just rinse out :D

my sister has a vitamix. she's had it for a few years and loves it. that was until we got a blendtec. she wishes that she had a blendtec instead. why?

here are the main reasons why she would rather have a blendtec.

1. she has to stand next to her vitamix and use a plunger. with the blendtec she can press a button and walk away.

2. the vitamix is too big to keep on her counter, she has to put it away in her pantry. the blendtec would be small enough to fit on her counter.

3. the vitamix requires different blender jar for different types of mixes. with the blendtec she can use the same blender jar for everything.

4. she commented on the shape of the blendtec jar, she says that its her opinion that the blendtec jar is shaped better then the vitamix making it so you don't have to open up the jar and move things around or use the plunger.

What do you use a blender for anyway? I think it would be kinda weird making guacamole with a blender. I like my guacamole chunky.

Smoothies, shakes, sauces, eggs (makes nice fluffy omelets!), dips, puddings, ice (makes excellent shaved ice), hummus, tahini, gravies, ice cream (I did Tang ice cream once...it was epic), etc. I mostly use mine for fruit smoothies & sweet potato smoothies (don't knock it 'til you've tried it!).

Also, it absolutely demolishes everything you put in it - I add baby spinach to my fruit smoothie after work every day and it blends it so well you can't even tell it's in there. For stuff like guacamole, you can use the Pulse feature so that it doesn't make it super smooth - it just chunks it up. Although you have to be careful with that - I once added chopped ham to my eggs to blend (for laziness...thought it'd make a good mixed omelet) and I left it blending so long that it liquified my ham

The real question is what would happen if you rigged two blendtec blenders to blend each other at the same time?

That was definitely one of the selling points for me - it fit under my countertop. I'm super lazy when it comes to getting things out, so it's either out and I use it, or it's in storage and I never remember to get it out. So A+ on that front.

Most of the time I don't have to use a plunger (usually a spatula). Probably the one exception I've run into is when I'm making virgin Margaritas - the ice/frozen concentrate mix can sometimes freeze just above the blades, creating a little air pocket, so I have to either push it down, or else add more liquid for it to blend better. But yeah, typically I don't have to use a plunger. I attribute that to the square design.

Probably my only complaint is how loud it is. On the max speed setting, you just about need earplugs. I kind of wish I had saved up for the Commercial model that has the sound-dampening lid, although it's like a grand for the 2400-watt 20-amp model:

We have a Vitamix and love it. It does everything we need it to do.

We had the standard Hamilton-Beach blenders for more than 35 years. They'll make smoothies too, but they don't last when you start pushing them hard.

As was mentioned, Blendtech and Vitamix both have their "groupies," so it's going to be difficult to get a definitive answer to "which one is better," but you won't go wrong with either one. Get the one that (a) has a price you like, (b) is available in the color you like (if it matters) and (c) comes with the features/accessories you want.

BOTH are outstanding blenders.
