<SPAN class=postbody>I am in my wild streak this week..

I have to be in sacramento on wednesday (i got orientation at CSUS at 1pm).. I was thinking of leaving LA at 4AM on the GS500. Its a 6 hr drive straight thru, with breaks lets say 7 hrs or so. Distance 400 miles.

Now here is teh kicker, getting back the same day!

Is it possible, will I hold up? I mean already sometimes doze off while riding (its happened).. how teh heck am I going to survive 400 miles. Plus what am I going to do with my mind, im going to be bored out of my mind and it will soon start falling asleep if I have nothting to do. (certain parts of my brain shut off but my eyes are wide awake still navigating but I dont know what the f%$k is going on.. its like micro naps but i drive fine.. but I am aware of this.. i try prevent it but sometimes it happens).

I was thinking of hooking up my portable mp3cd player and earbuds under the helmet for company.. so maybe that will keeep me awake. What about my butt? I mean damn 800 miles in less than 24 hrs. Maybe 1000 if i come by teh 101 instead of the 5 on the way back.

So is it doable?

I am sure i am goign to get resitance from mom and dad, but hey what's life withotu some risks. What shoudl i check before i ride, after all there are ppl here who have done long rides before.. but has anybody done 800 - 1000 miles in a day on a GS500 or any bike?

Manjul

PS: Anybody in sacramento wanna meet up just in case i do take the bike, otehrwise im taking the focus.

dont go on interstate 101, its a speed trap with 500% more cops than i-5. i've had to drive 400+ mi in one nite from SJ to SD and got busted for doing 120 in a 65 in the middle of the night with no cars around in either direction... cept the cop car. yeah it was also towards the end of the month. i however no longer speed and drive like a grandma because $300 speeding tickets hurt, the donut trooper was nice enuff to write me down at 99mph so i didnt get my license revoked.

120.. oh my!

I never do that fast, even so I will never cross 100. On the GS I have hit 100 but never crossed it. The other day some of the BMW and bandit riders hit 150+ on a straightaway..

Anyway the fastest I woudl cruise on the bike is 90.. that with no windshiled.. because i dont have one.. unless i pinch marucio's windshiled.
I think the 101 is a better route, sure it has its cops, but atleast i know where they are.. i know the route quite well. The 5 is a route that i hardly travel..

Jolt & VIVARIN if you really have to make the trip in one day, but as I like reading your posts here The_good_guy, I don't suggest it :)

well it's totally doable. Your orientation is at 1 pm, so let's say that you get done at 2 or 3. That'll put you back in LA before midnight. I just made the drive from San Diego to Sacramento 2 days ago and I didn't even leave SD until 5 pm. The only thing you gotta ask yourself is if you want to be sitting on your butt for that long.

If you're afraid of your ride breaking down, then I highly suggest that you take Highway 99 instead of 5. 99 has a lot more towns on the way, whereas 5 is pretty much just straight flat land.

Yes it is possible. Drove straight through from Houston to West Lafayette, IN. On another trip a group of us drove straight through from West Lafayette to LA.

What the hell? You crazy? You're putting yourself in danger, and other people on the road in danger as well. Rest up before coming back if you say you take mini-naps while driving, not to mention that many miles in so short a time. Don't be stupid.

You will be in majorly sore after your trip up. You won't be able to walk after your trip back, if you can stay on for the for the whole ride.

If I were you I'd get some earphones from here. Riding a motorcycle and listening to music at the same time is a sure fire way to permanently damage your hearing.

Oh, the reason I suggest those is that they double as earplugs as well, but they don't screw up the sound, so you'll still be able to accurately hear what your engine is doing.

I've put in only 1 800+ mile day on a motorcycle, it took months for the carpal tunnel syndrome to go away & I was driving a big comfortable BMW with a fairing...

Take your car, live to ride your cycle another day.

I can tell you right now, there is no way in fvcking hell you can do 800 mi in one day on a bike. You could do it in a car, and you will be exhausted. You would be lucky to make it 400 miles in one day.

I've done 600 miles in a car after moving, and I've done the trip you've stated (+some distance on the ends). Take a car. The bike would be too much.

Pffft. 800 miles in a car in a day ain't nuthin. I've done that numerous times with only two or three stops for gas.

No way you'll do it on the bike.
