Should I eat fruit if I want to lose weight?

I've decided tomorrow I'm gonna kick my own ass until I'm back in shape. Instead of going the Atkins or South Beach diet route I think I'm going to stick with lots of vegetables, tuna, chicken and fruit (if it's not bad for me).

My workout will be 2 days a week full body exercising w/ free weights and 2-3 days of cardio for at least 40-60 minutes

Will this get me back in shape

I just went to a nutritionist, and she pretty much told me that fruit with low natural sugar is all good. She said I can pretty much eat all the strawberries I want, grapes arent good because of the high sugar, and she said banana's are in the same category as grapes. She said canteloupe is good too. She also said that I can eat as much chicken/turkey I want. She also said to eat a lot of fiber.

Don't eat TOO much tuna or other fish. The FDA recommends less than 6 oz. a week of tuna for pregnant women b/c it has low levels of mercury. Be wary, and make sure you don't eat ONLY tuna.

Oh, please.

You could eat fruit all day every day and you would be DAMN hard pressed to gain any weight at all.

Eat as much fruit as you want. It is good for you.

Unless you need specific diet due to lifting etc, the best thing you can do is eat a balanced diet consisting of the most nutritionally dense foods you can get your hands on.

Fruits may have quite a bit of sugar, but it isn't the same kind of sugar that is found in your average candybar. It is sugar with meaning, so to speak. It's not just empty calories. The benefits from all the substances in plant matter far outweigh any negative impacts eating fructose will bring.

I bought a half-flat of strawberries at the grocery store this week (I think it's about 4 lbs. and it cost $4) and I have about a half-pound left.

I'm off to eat some more strawberries! 🙂

havnt you heard? that has carbs, dont eat carbs an lose allot of weight very quickly and unhealthfully

read up and get some knowledge.

atkins/south beach only discourages that concentration of carbs the first two weeks (induction phase). after the induction phase, south beach allows for fruits. even decent amounts of fruit.

also, the concept of NET carbs seems to have escaped you. Fruit has Fiber, net carbs = grams of carbs - grams of fiber.

i tried a eat-a-small-meal-and-when-I-got-hungry-I-binge-on-fruits diet.

didn't work as well as I thought it would, because after 3 apples, 1 orange, and 2 bananas I stilll want to take a bite out of that Double Cheese Burger.

but since you have chicken on your list, I think it will be okaay.

Yes you will lose weight if you watch food intake. I'd personally recommend counting calories, since so many are unaware of how much they're really eating. Go for 1800/day nicely spready out with a good bit of protein.

Why don't you just try eating small meals every 4 hours? Works for me.

Bump up the cardio. 4-5 days a week, 40 min a day. 2-3 isn't gonna cut it, get your body to adapt and stick with it.

My 3rd week of daily cardio (40 min per day), I'm down 7 lbs. Avg 1-2 lbs weekly weight loss is pretty good, nothing unhealthy about it.

And cut your diet to 1600 calories, meals every 3-4 hours, no food 4 hours before going to bed. Once you get in a routine, your body will take care of the rest.
