Should I do my EVGA step-up from my 8800gts 320mb to 8800gt 512mb

I bought my 8800gts on September 11th and I have two months left until my eVGA stepup program ends.

I was thinking of waiting a little less than two months to see if they release the next gen cards for not much more than I paid for my 8800gts 320mb and just getting that.

Whata think?

See my sig for my specs of my rig.

How does one "step-up" to a cheaper card? The most expensive 8800GT eVGA offers is the SSC edition clocked at 700/2000 and it's still only 289.99. The standard 8800GT is 259.99 with the SuperClocked at 269.00 and the KO at 279.99. ????
What did you pay for your GTS OP?

I say wait.

I don't have the step-up but I might sell my 320 and get a 512 GT though....

Simple...You get it free...😀

hehe, if only. I was under the impression that the step up required not only an upgrade in performance from what you currently have, but also a higher priced card was necessary to qualify it as a "step-up".

P.S. Sorry guys, I keep hitting the "edit" button instead of the "quote" button. Your posts were not altered.

I love EVGA they make great cards, but the step-up program is so much marketing smoke up your ass it ain't funny. The main deterent is the lack of availability of desirable cards, newly introduced (high demand) cards are not made available to the stepup program until months after they come out(read the disclaimers), and when they do come available they are already discounted at retail to the point where paying the stepup price based on MSRP is no longer of any value.

Well, you don't get money back. 🙁

According to the website, I only had 27 days left in the program so I submitted a request to "step-up" to the 8800GT. They subtract the price you paid for your old card from the new. If it's negative, then they call it even, plus shipping. Since I paid 299.99 minus a 15.00 rebate, I lost $5.00 in the deal, not including shipping.

I signed up even though the 8800GT is backordered at the EVGA site. I hope they get stock before the 27 days are up, unless just submitting the request locks me in. If so, I don't mind waiting.

i would wait until the last day of the 3 monthes to get a step up...
Prices go down as time passes, and new, better, products are released... why rush to step up? is your GTS not powerful enough? the GT isn't THAT much more powerful then it...

Well get the most expensive SuperOC version of the card. I think they are $280-$290 at their web site. You don't lose too bad.

Unfortunately they only have the 8800GT vanilla available for step-up even though they have SuperOC available on their online store.

I canceled my Step-Up. I'm going to wait until the very last of my 27 days to see if they do offer a SuperOC version or if the new GTS is worth getting instead.
