Should I do it?

My system specs seem ok, but my mobo = rev 1 which means poor OC capability and the 3500+ is a NewCastle, which again hampers OCing. Then there's my case, which while quiet, doesn't have that great of airflow.

I'm thinking about taking advantage of the evga deal.. $529 for a 7800GTX & Free Motherboard (at Monarch). I would also get a Seasonic 600w PSU (eWiz), an Antec P180 and a couple extra case fans, X2 3800+, and I currently have an XP-90 on the way. The upgrades would run me about $1200. I have the money to do it, I just don't know if I should jump on it now or if I should wait. The free motherboard is valued at $110.. so to make up the difference, 7800GTX's would have to drop at least that much, and who knows how long that'll be. Or maybe I should wait and see what ATI comes out with...

What to do....

The classic question...

Just keep in mind that when you play the "I'll wait until prices drop" game, you invariably notice a newer item and want to wait for that one... it spawns a vicious circle.

If you want to upgrade, do it. Don't try to wait until you can get the best deal, because once these prices have fallen, you'll become enamored with a newer video card/processor/motherboard/memory that will cost just as much 🙂

Well, I went ahead and ordered a few things:
eVGA GeForce 7800 GT 256MB DDR3/PCI-E/VIVO/Dual-DVI (Retail Box) w/Free Motherboard: $429 + 9.50 shipping = $438.50
OCZ OCZ52012U ModStream ATX 2.0 520W Power Supply: $94 - $15MIR = $79
E6 Venice 3000+ & AS5 = $134.52 shipped
XP-90 & fan = $43.70 shipped

Grand total = $710.72 before rebates. I'm hoping I get the PSU in time to meet the deadline for the rebate, it must be postmarked by Sept 10.. I'm gonna try to get the $30 rebate on the evga 7800, but I don't know if that will happen. I'm gonna try everything out in my Sonata before I decide on a P180.

Well I got everything up and running after a few dumb mistakes... the performance is great so far!! I'm gonna try to tweak it even more.

Good to hear.
How are your temps?
I also have a Sonata and have been fighting hi system temps since day one. Part of the problem is that I have a Newcastle, and the PSU always runs hot due to only the single 80mm fan. Has the new PSU/CPU helped cool it down?

Sadly, I'm not sure about the temps. There is a known issue with the evga mobo reporting inaccurate temps. My guess is that they are fine.. everything is stable.
I'm still thinking about getting a P180.. I could use a bigger case. The modstream has some stiff cables!
