Should I do anything to this douche?

A couple of weeks ago, my dachshund got jumped by a stupid goldendoodle as we were walking by it in the town woods where I grew up. I had to jump on top of them and throw the dog off of mine. The idiot dog's owner was like 'dogs just being dogs'.

My dog ran and when I caught up to him, I noticed he was bit. When I yelled back to the other guy, the fucker ran with his dog. I lost him when I started to chase after him. I had to take my dog to the emergency hospital since it was late Saturday. I filed a police report in case I bump into him again down the road, they have a reference when I call them. The police told me to call them if I bumped into him again and they would get his info.

My dog's wound:

Today, as I was walking in the woods with the dogs, guess who I bumped into? The douche quickly leashed his dog as it starts lunging at me and my dogs. I tell the guy that his dog had bit my dog a couple of weeks ago, he was like 'ok'. I also tell him that I had filed a police report b/c he had taken off after the incident, that he should take responsibility and apologize. He was like 'good for you' and starts walking away.

I start following him and call the cops. At first, he was walking to exit the woods then noticed I was following him and turns down another trail. I catch up to him and when I tell him that I was on the phone with the police right now, he takes off. Note this guy must be like 50 years old. Why would he fucking run now that he's been caught? Pic of him running:

So, I tell the police that I'm going after him and hang-up. I'm running right behind him with my dachshund in one arm with a backpack and my other dog on leash for about 1/4 of a mile then I yell at him that I'm running a marathon tomorrow and that he's not going to be able to out run me. He stops. And he starts telling me that my dachshund was the one that attacked his dog. He then says that his dog is nine(dog is probably around one) and that he's never attacked another dog. Then he's like, how do I know that it was his dog that attacked mine. The guy is lying his ass off over and over.

Note, while he's telling me this, his dog is lunging at us. He says that his dog is acting that way b/c of the commotion. I ask him why are my dogs completely calm then. He says nothing. I tell him he can tell that to the police. At first he says, ok but then stops. I tell him, I'm going to follow him straight back to his house. I tell him to take responsibility for his dog, that I had to take my dog to the hospital and spend hundreds of dollars. The only thing he says is that I can take pics of the dogs tags(rabies, dog license and his information). I take pics.

The guy then takes off again into the woods. Another guy that was over hearing everything comes up and asks me if I want him to join me in chasing after him. I tell him no, I got his info but thank him.

Didn't see the police officer when I got out, so I drove over to the police department and showed them the pics and they took down his info. They were recording my phone call and know the guy ran when I tell him the police are coming. I discover the police officer is the brother of a high school friend who also is a Lt for the police. Of course, he tells me that I shouldn't have chased after him. They plan on going out to his house to talk to him.

It blows my mind that a 50 year old douche bag won't take responsibility for his dog's actions and thinks running when I have the police on the phone. All he had to do is apologize and offer to pay my vet bill but nope, he's got to be a lying sack of shit.

The main reason for involving the police and chasing after him was not to let him get away with it and to ensure that his dog has a record for being aggressive.

So, I have his info. Should I do anything with it?

I could take him to small claims court but he'll just lie and it'll be my word against his.

He was wearing a lacrosse shirt of the high school. I google and learn that his son plays for one of my good friends from hs who is the coach. Knowing this and being friends with some of the officers has me conjuring up evil thoughts of what I could possibly have them do. But I won't.

It'll be interesting what he has to say to the police. I'll also probably bump into this ass again in the woods.

Just needed to vent, thanks for reading.

Cliffs:
-Dog attacks my dog and owner runs away with his dog
-My dog goes to the hospital with a puncture wound
-I file a police report b/c I know I'm going to bump into him again
-Bump into jerk and his dog
-With the police on the phone, the guys takes off again
-Hang-up and go in pursuit
-Catch up to him and get photos of the dogs tags(dog's and owner's info)
-Go to the police dept and report the info
-Thinking evil thoughts

You should record video of any further transactions with the guy.

Don't do anything that you don't want shown on your local TV news.

Reminds me of some recent news story......was he wearing a hoodie?

Bear spray is the only way. I trust my wife with it.

Depends on the state. S.C. sucks in small claims.

National parks allow conceal/carry. For your safety and others.

Edit: What Six said...if you don't want to repeat it in front of a jury....

Very entertaining story. Exciting even! I like the photos there too...makes me think I'm there chasing the guy, all out of breath and shaking the camera while I run.

You might get a professional to assess the temperament of the dog that bit your dog. If the pro says the dog is nuts, it won't matter what the guy says in court.

So what do you want? The guy to pay for your dogs stitches? His dog put down? He probably ran because he thought you'd have his dog killed. Take responsibility for your dog is all you kept yelling at him. Way to pick on an old fart big man.

If both dogs were on a leash this should not have happened, my biggest problem walking my dog is irresponsible owners who think it's fine to have their dogs in their front yards unleashed then they bolt into the street as we go by. OP, glad your dog will be OK, thank god for that.

If you get the money for the vet bill, call it a good day. and over. Not really worth doing something that might end up blowing back in your face.

Since OP's dog "ran off" after the attack I'm guessing it was not leashed and the attacking dog probably was not either, since OP is partly responsible the other dude is responsible for half the vet bills.

I own two dash-hounds, a male and a female. I love my dogs.
Now about your adventure,
Since both dogs were off their leashes, you're as responsible as the other guy.
Who the F files a police report over a dog biting another dog when BOTH dogs were off their leashes.
Pay your vet bill and shut the fuck up.
Careful who you mess with out there.
YOU are harassing this "old" guy.
If I were the "old" guy, I would have the means to "repel" you at our next encounter.

Hope your dog is OK, he is cute. Just keep it on a leash from now on.

I did not know you could lease dogs. Is it expensive?

oops, my bad, I agree with your opinion though, BOTH owners share responsibility when an off-leash incident happens, right from the get-go OP avoided stating who's (if any) dog was properly leashed..

That's a last resort type of situation, just because your legally entitled to shoot doesn't mean it's the best thing to do..

Were I packing and any dog attacked anything of mine (whether it be dog, cat, child, etc,) that dog would be shot.

My stuff is more important than some other asshole's ill-mannered and untrained mutt.

I kind of agree with you as I get royally pissed when this crap happens to me, but afterward realize I've been able to chase off the dog on my own or I just pick my dog up, (not that easy at 65lbs either). We still don't know if OP's dog forged ahead and approached the other dog ect., the devil is in details so they say..
