Should i ditch my trusty Ti-83 Plus for a Ti-89? Right now im in Calculus AB, the teacher uses a Ti-83 to demonstrate, but theres a bout 10 people who have a 89 and they are doin fine....Will it help to have an 89 later in college, im prolly gonna do Computer Engineering....Right now i want to get the 89 beacuse i can check my answers easyer....Do you think its worth it...theres a site that has it for 107 id prolly pricematch it at staples or office depot and use a 20 off coupon and get it at a decent price. What im afraid is ill be lost with the 89 and wont know how to do anything..is it really that hard?

I think you're better off using an 83 until you have a basic understanding of calc. I didn't touch an 89 until college; used my 83 for AB and managed fine. The 89 will definitely be of help in college tho, no 2 ways about that. Brighter people can get away without one but it will help many students, myself duly included;)

My 89 was a godsend for calculus, but it wasnt really needed. In fact, I only really used it to play games now that i think about it.........

I used it alot for AB.. :(

I'd wait on the college thing though since some use the HPs while others use the TIs..

I have had the TI-82 and used it without problems since 1995. But right now, I'm a senior in college, and I am seriously considering getting a TI-89 for the advanced differential equations involving imaginary numbers that we are doing in my DSP class. It would also help me in 3-D graph plotting. But, I really don't think you need it for Calc AB, unless the class has changed significantly since I took it (1998-99). Your TI-83 should be just fine for now.
