Should I disable my swap file?

I don't really multi-task heavily. I just use windows to game pretty much. My rig is

PD805 @ 3.8ghz (stock cooling)
2 gigs of patriot DDR2-800
X1900XT (overclocked like all hell)
ASUS P5WD2 E-Preimum
Seagate 7200.10 320gig

Should I disable the swap file or will it hurt performance? I am just wondering because AFAIK I have more than enough ram to cover what any games out there use.

no, but you should

really, this is a weekly thing, go search and then bump that thread if you still have questions.

As nweaver says, no, do not disable the swap file. And no, even with 2gigs of ram, you do not have enough to 'cover what any games out there use'. There are plenty of games that would like more then 2gigs.

I turn mine off this morning just to test it...

So far i do not notice a difference .... AT ALL.

I am doing CAD work and i played one game, Age of Empires 3. So far not one issue.

OK, WTF?

No game yet is going to map gigs of data into memory at the same time. Not yet. The OS will drop kernel-side caches when more userspace memory is needed.

Battlefield 2 chugs like a b1tch on 1gb ram.

You should also be doing some searching.

If you had you would notice that even if you try and turn it off Windows goes and creates one for you.

The short of it is that it's not a swap file but rather a paging file.

You should be adding more RAM and than letting the system manage the rest.

It's been at least a day since this question was last debated exhaustively.
