should I consider the software in picking DVD burner?

should I even bother to pay extra for a retail version of a dvd burner to get the included software?

I deciding between the sony dru510a and the pioneer a06, and the respective oem versions of them.

the sony comes with Veritas RecordNow DX 4.6, Sonic MyDVD, Veritas DLA 3.5
the pioneer comes with Ahead Nero Express 5.5, Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 SE, SAI WriteDVD 5.0

I've heard there is good enough freeware that you don't really need anything bundled? I mainly only want to use this to back up files

I bought the Pioneer A06 OEM about 2-3 months ago. (I love it BTW) Hell, if you're just backing up data, I think you can just do that in Windows, without any 3rd party apps. If you ever decide to backup movies, then you don't want to use that crap they give you anyway, only Nero is useful for burning the dvd files to disc. DVD Decrypter and DVDShrink will do the job, though, and both are free.

So, IMO, no, the software isn't worth it.
