I have been postponing an upgrade for a while because i only use my pc for surfing + some c# development from time to time. I still game, but exclusively on the Xbox360: the idea was, if i only game on the 360 i don't need to upgrade my pc all the time 😉

But recently my old gaming buddies from back in the BF2 days have picked up bad company 2, and i feel the urge to join in!

My current system:
- Athlon XP 3500+ (singlecoregalore!)
- 2Gb ram
- 7800GTX 512Mb

I put together a shopping basket at a local dealer with the following items :

- Intel C2D E8400 3Ghz 65W (155&#8364😉
- 2 extra gigs of ram (54&#8364😉
- Asus P5Q SE2 (71&#8364😉
- Gainward 8800GTX 786Mb (80&#8364😉

Now, the price of this is exactly 360€ (is there a hidden message in there?)
Is it just me, or it that a tremendous upgrade for a really low price?

You probably don't need to upgrade your GPU if you're not going to game at all. The Wolfdale is a great processor and should fit your needs well. Not too sure if you'd need something like that for surfing the web though. An E5300 combo could probably do the same for a hell of a lot cheaper. Or consider an i3 IGP combo.

"2 extra gigs of ram" ? That makes it sound like you're planning to combine with what you have. . . Core2Duos only use DDR2, and an Athlon XP uses DDR. Unless you meant Athlon 64. . .and even then it's only DDR2 if you have an AM2 motherboard.

If you're serious about Bad Company 2, they say it really likes quad-core - the E8400 is a bit overpriced now and you could do an AMD quad solution for the same money.

This.

Get a 955 for $160 (don't know what the prices are like for you, so I'm just going to quote USD), a decent AM3 board for $80 (for example Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H), 4GB of DDR3 for $100, and that 8800GTX (damn good price on that one!).

You will also might need a new PSU to handle the Phenom II and 8800GTX. What's the amperage on each rail of your current PSU (look on the sticker)?

Have you considered getting the 360 version of the game? I understand if you prefer the PC version and I guess your friends are playing that, but when you consider the cost to play one game... well, that's why I've stopped PC gaming as well. Always having to buy upgrades to keep up with gaming when there's fewer and fewer real PC games any more.
