Should I carry a nice trusty baseball bat in my car trunk?

This thought occured to me while driving today. You spend a lot of time driving and being on the road, also you're accompanied by your car wherever you go in most cases.

Chances are you might run into some danger in your life.. from lil prick punks to serious threats. I was thinking, would it be strange for me to carry a baseball bat in my trunk? I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. I mean, I live in a very safe town and the party city Boston is relatively safe as well, but you may never know what or something might happen.

I mean it as a means to intimidate in times of self-defense, not for assaults or stupid crap like that. A pepper spray would be nice but it's not as visually intimidating as having a baseball bat, providing mental protection.. and guns are stupid and just out of the question to keep in your vehicle.

So I ask you, should I carry one in my trunk? Do any of you carry similar self-defense objects?

IMO, if it's in your trunk it's pretty worthless.. if someone threatens you, what are you going to do..

well, if you run into some idiot with crazy road rage. the dude gets out of the car and starts to threaten you physically. That's when you get out as well, pop the trunk and pull out the bat and say, "i don't want any trouble here, and certainly you wouldn't want one either."

I have like a 4 foot metal pipe right by the driver side door, which I use to prop the hood up if I need to work on the engine or something. It might double as a weapon someday if I needed it...

Why do you need to tell them? Just pop your trunk and grab the weapon. If you have to reach into your car to get a weapon, it doesn't take much more to reach the trunk.

oh yeah, if you keep a baseball bat in your trunk, always keep a baseball glove and ball too.

This way, in case you ever get stopped by the police and searched, instead of you having a deadly weapon you have equipment to go play baseball

What happens when the dude jumps you (now REALLY pissed at you because you're threatening him with a baseball bat) and snatches the bat away from you?

Your best advice would be to carry a cell phone at all times and keep your doors locked whenever you drive if you're that paranoid of being involved in an incident.

Remember that just getting the bat out can constitute assault

IMO if you are really that worried about it, or live in an area that bad, concealed carry would be the way to go. Getting out a bat would just make things worse.

I agree with BillGates, never carry any sort of weapon unless you know how to use it and intend to use it. Lock the door, use the phone. If safety is a real concern, learn to use a gun and carry that. I am not a gun person, but I do not care if others are into that sort of thing.
