I ordered a Seagate Momentus 100gb 7200rpm drive that they claimed was in stock but turned out not to be. Should i cancel the order and go with another drive? I'm looking at seagates 100gb 5400rpm drive or teh hitachi 60gb 7200rpm drive.

Did they give you any sort of estimated ship date? If you're expecting to wait more than I week or two I think I'd cancel and order from somewhere it's in stock. I'd stick with Seagate though because of their 5yr. warranty instead of the 1 or 3 year warranty that the competition has.

Double posting I see? 😛

The 5400.2 (120GB 5400RPM, high areal density) should be available soon (at least I have one 😛); not a bad alternative IMO. However I keep hearing "a few weeks" regarding the 7200.1

honestly....bad choice on the 5400rpm drive. The 7200 rpm drive in a laptop makes a world of a difference. not to mention for $50 you can get 100+GB drives in an external enclosure if you really need the space.

I ordered the drive a couple of weeks ago from Superwarehouse.com which claimed to have it in stock, but then i got an email saying that it was a mistake. They then told me that it would be 10-14 business days before it was stocked. So i emailed this morning (11th day) and asked if it was in stock. They then told me that the ETA was 8/20. I had earlier asked them for free shipping and they had granted it to me. But I am leaving for college on the 13th and can't wait till the 20th. So i canceled the order, bought the Seagate 100gb from Newegg.com. With the extra money i bought a notebook cooler and a Logitech MX518 mouse.

fbrdphreak, i looked on your website for the review and that helped me pick up the HDD. I was looking at the 7200 but I would like the extra storage and i didn't see a huge need for speed. And i did double post cause i needed opinions fast...🙂

hehe, its all good man. i'll e-mail my seagate guy soon about an update on the 7200.1. if the 7200.1's aren't available soon, expect a full review of the 120gb 54002. 🙂
