Should I call the employers who I had interviews with?

It's been around a week since I had an interview with this one company. I haven't heard any word. However, the job is still posted on their website and they are still accepting resumes. I want to give the director a buzz to just get an idea of what's going on and act like I'm interested. At least 2 people told me otherwise to do so. I'm concerened though I may sound needy or desperate???

Naaa. Call a couple times a day and also send a fruit basket or pizza if its near lunch.

That will show you are a go getter, and hopfully get that job.

I wonder if it'd negatively affect your bargaining position later, when it's time to negotiate salary? My initial thoughts are that I would not call. If they want you, they'll get in touch with you.

I just gave the guy a call a couple seconds ago. I didn't go to far as to ask how everything was going?

He simply said they had a couple more to interview and he will give me a call as soon as they are all finished. I don't know if I should of went further on trying to sell myself on the phone or if I should just left it at that. So anyway I went ahead and said thank you and bye.

This isn't L&R, employers want you to be needy and desperate, it means you aren't likely to leave.

I hate when my interviewees call me, it just makes me uncomfortable. If I wanted to talk to you again I'd setup another interview. Don't bug me while I'm working.

As someone that does HR type work as well I agree

when people keep bugging me all that tells me is you are going to do the same if you work here. If you already work here and bug me then I take your issues with less regard.

Marlin & KT,

Thanks for the insight. Confirms what I thought about you smug HR interviewers.
Bet if I were the "hot new phenom" prospect, you would be pestering the crap out of me to make a decision!!!
Wonder how your company is doing, hmmm.

I'm not in HR. I am the manager for my department and our company is doing extremely well thank you very much.

You've pretty much confirmed my point though, if we wanted you, we would call you. You calling me is not going to change my impression of you. A call would have already come your way if I wanted a second interview, so by the time you are deciding to call me, well it's most likely way too late.

After only a week and presuming you sent a thank-you card, then no. The job still being up on the website is also no big deal, they might be waiting to obtain the magical talisman of a 'diverse' candidate pool' before making a decision.

I do work HR and I agree again. If we choose you we call, if not then someone else got it.
We call make an offer. We give people a week or so, maybe more if there?s a good reason. After that we move on. We get hundreds sometimes thousands of people for some jobs. Trust me NOBODY is that special, don?t fool yourself. There?s always going to be somebody that can do it as well or even better. When people ask for more money and such we tell them again the offer and that?s it, take it or leave it.

This does not represent every company. I would take this as an opportunity to practice persistence. It's also a good place to work on getting over that embarrassing feeling that you are "bothering" a person who's job is to screen candidates. You are a candidate and that gives you every right to ask them about it up until the point they tell you no.

If a person isn't adult enough to be honest with you and say "we don't want you for the position" then they deserve to be bugged about it. It is not like it will change the outcome.

I would not expect anyone to marvel in your go getter attitude. But you should take all opportunities to practice persistence.

Too much good talent goes to waste when people won't stand up for themselves, start early and work on it often and you'll be much happier in life.

Depends on the company. but most will call you if they want you. Doesn't mean it's going to hurt you any if you call to touch base after a week or two, but I would only do it once, no more than that. Since I started looking for a job in late March, I've only applied at like 7 or 8 places, got 3 interviews, and out of those got 4 job offers (one place offered me a job without even interviewing me, but it's a crap company). None of them did I call at all, although I did forward an email to one guy, only because he happened to know my old boss and I was sending a hello email his way.

The 3 I interviewed with all made it clear they would call me if they were interested, if they didn't then it meant they weren't.

I've always been told that its good practice to follow up with either a thank you email/letter. Although I wouldn't go far beyond that.
