New speakers that is; have 5.1 analog now,thinking of getting digital
thx,dolby surround; with decoder; can you really hear the difference???
My wife and I are serious gamers.

If it's for gaming, then no. A 4.1 setup does a pretty darned good job for gaming. Soundcards seem to be more important for positional audio. The Audigy and the Acoustic Edge have some really good positional audio.

Have Audigy gamer now,the new audigy has a decoder what does that tell us; me thinks newer games will be using more and more sound advances;
such as thief. As for the future? don't know; music? dvd? Just was wondering if anyone has heard it? besides the 5.1 can go to computer #2,
the 4.1 can go to the wifes' TV , and I get a new toy!!!
