Should I buy Unreal (not UT)

OK, I basically skipped the entire Quake I, II, and Unreal generation and landed here at Q3 and UT. I saw Unreal for cheap recently, and I am wondering if I should just buy it. I can't seem to find a demo of the game.

I love UT, but I still haven't even finished the game. I finished UT Deathmatch and that's about it and then started playing online exclusively. What's the Unreal online play like?

Don't like it, don't play it, fool :p

Unreal is one my all time favorite games. The graphics, two years later, are still as jawdropping as they were in the Summer of '98. The single player in Unreal is just extraodinary. Some people like Half-Life better, but the enemies in Half-Life were totally lame, and had no AI whatsoever. There are some truly unbelievable levels in Unreal; some of 'em are huge. Although most Unreal players have migrated to UT, much like how most Quake2 players have moved on to Quake3, there are still many folks who play the game online. When Unreal initially came out, it did - indeed - suck bigtime online. But there have been numerous patches, and the current version of Unreal should have the same netcode as UT.

So, in short, yes I would go for it :)

Unreal is good online, but servers are getting hard to find. If you can get it cheap, get it. The single player is very good and it has bots for multiplay. Also, it has a few nice mods such as RealCTF, Infiltration, U4E. Unreal makes for a fun LAN game too.

YES!!!!! Unreal looks just as good today as it did before. This game rules. The maps are amazing, the weapons are interesting and the environmental effects are just extraordinary.

The hardware plateau has only just caught up to this game even though it was released two years ago. I give this game 9.5/10.

If you buy it, make sure to download the latest 226 update.

I love Unreal. I have gotten more replay value from this game than any other. I have seen complaints about the weapons being underwhelming, but I think they require a bit more finesse than the ones in other fps games (i.e. Quake series). And the graphics are just....unreal. 'nuff said.

When the final patch came out for Unreal, I reinstalled it to see how it played (I waited a year for the D3D to get patched enough to play on my TNT1 and that was last summer!) The graphics, while still good have fallen behind the standard of Q3 and UT.

The guy (CyberSax) who said that Unreal had better AI than Half-Life is either an idiot or flat out lying! HL is the GOLD standard which all other games are compared with and playa-haters like them are to be ignored.

Unreal was a decent game with a crap ending (like most games do) with OK weapons. Many got retooled into UT and the MP maps from Unreal got remade for UT in the Bonus Pack.

If it's cheap, go ahead and give it a swing. Patch it up and go to it. For MP though, stick to UT.

Yes Unreal was a great game when I played it two years ago......then Half Life came out and I never looked back..... :)
It is still visually very good by contemporary standards.......if it's cheap enough just get it...... :)
CyberSax is either confused about HL and some other game or has never actually played HL as DirkBelig said... ;)
Get a cheap copy of HL if ya can - you will not be disappointed.. ;)

Contrary to what Dickless Belig tells you, the AI in Half Life is incompetent. The game that first defined the true botmatch, was Unreal, and it was because of Unreal's diverse, highly configurable AI. Half Life's AI is just made up of poorly assembled leftover code from Quake 2. Some people see talking characters in HL and think that that's what makes good AI; it's simple scripting, dumb@sses. Not to say that it isn't challenging, but some games made back in the 1970's are challenging with their 1000 lines of code. The AI in HL was unsophisticated and unrealistic. That's what made Unreal much more fun to play, at least if you're looking for a challenge :p

Playing HL is about as fun as banging your nuts with a hammer. Just wait till you see some of the sissy weapons in the game, like that little cockroach you throw at people. LOL. The game was a joke, but it's become a cult classic no less. Go figure :p

CyberSax seems a bit piss*d off about the HL thing and is perhaps getting a bit emotional about it....HL is a great game once you get into it...absolutely no need to "go figure" ;)

Unreal will depend on your 3D card...it's a bit temperamental on a TNT... Thats what I was running it on at that time..

I might try banging my nuts with a hammer now...I really enjoyed Half Life.. :)

p.s. These "cutesy" smiley faces are awful....... :(

we had a long azz thread on this while ago... the conclusion was unreal is more about enjoying the breathtaking scenery rather than kickin monsters' azzes.
