Just stopped by Sears - they have a Magnavox 50" DLP 720p HDTV for $1499.99 - $600 instant - 10% (floor model) - $250 (Sears card cash back on 50"+ HDTV), leaving me with $559.xx OTD (no sales tax in NH). Product service plan is ~$220 for 3yr, $310-ish (IIRC) for 5yr...I'd probably skip that, though.

I don't have a TV at the moment - just watch movies on my PC. It'll be used for movies, PS2 and possibly HD cable down the line..dunno yet.

Whaddya think?

Wait till Black Friday if you can. Deals will be far better than that.

Not a bad deal for a 50" DLP. I don't have any experience with Magnavox though.

I just might..you really think they'll be much cheaper than this? I would like an LCD over a DLP, though. Maybe I should wait.

Does it come with a free lamp?

I'm sure the one on the display model is has a bunch of hours on it.

I thought about that too - the best they'd give me is 10% off, which is significantly less than what a new lamp would cost.

Black Friday would probably be my best bet..I'll just have to be patient to see what they'll have.. :)

Black Friday deals aren't going to be much better than that. Still I'd avoid it, DLP isn't really the wave of the future. You should be able to snag a 37 inch LCD for around 500 bucks, which might meet your needs.

Dont forget "floor model". I wold wait for a proper HDTV, eitehr LCD or plasma on Black Friday. DLP vs. plasma is like buying a Corolla when you really wanted a Maxima. :)

I bought the same tv used on eBay for about $700 in the beginning of this year. I had to replace the lamp last month to the tune of about $200, but other than that it's been flawless and has been serving me well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the same TV again, but I'm not sure about buying a display model w/o a new lamp.

DLP is great for projectors and movie theaters, not tv's.
Poor viewing angle, cost to replace the lamp are two drawbacks.
But... for that price, it might make you happy for some time to come, even with the negs.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I have a 50" Magnavox DLP, although it is apparently different than the one here because mine is 1080i. First of all, I don't know where you get poor viewing angle from unless you are standing absolutely directly to the side of the thing but you are way off on that one. Secondly, it has a fantastic picture on it, especially when watching sports.
