If it does not work, when you give it back he will be like ok now you owe me the price as it was working before. There are NO deals to be had, if its too good to be real............

I did a little background check on this dude and he is at least 50 and was in the US military and a grandfather. I doubt he's gonna strong arm you.

Exactly, and he even says in his ad, if it doesn't work, bring it back.

I have no way to test it though, haha.

If you send a postal money order but there is a chance it will not work. I sold it to a guy when it was working perfectly and he brought it back and said it wouldn't boot so he either changed his mind

or he is telling the truth.......I'd hate to have to have you mail it back.

Sounds like a scam with the whole money order bit.

Why would someone ruin a $200 processor so they can scam someone out of $100?

Firstly, if its a scam there may be no processor at all... once the money order is sent it cannot be retracted and cannot be traced. And it may just be possible that the seller screwed up the processor and is trying to dump it on someone.

Like I said though, what's the purpose of lapping?

ok, if you know him well enough maybe you can just try it out. but my guess is, he already tried it out and couldn't make it work. think about it, if he knows more about lapping and using these tools than you do and he can't get this thing working, chance is you probably won't. if you can do this on a try first basis then i suppose you can give it a shot just for fun.

Money Order is only for if you want him to ship it to you. Since the OP is local, he wont have to do that.

Not that this has any bearing on this discussion, but I've lapped my CPU.

I just have an issue with the CPU it's never worked properly out of the box. This guy might have ran into the same problem but I was getting 70c with stock speeds/heatsink at idle!

I lapped it and bought a new heatsink that was more powerful and I'm now down to 55c idle.

I used 2400 grit sandpaper when I lapped it though. Which looked loads better than that pic. It's supposed to look more like a mirror, not what you see there. He probably went to home depot and bought 100 grit sandpaper for wood, but you are supposed to go to an auto parts store and buy something closer to 2400 grit for metal.

Now I need to see if I can undervolt my computer and make it stable to see if I fix the temp even more.

It means this guy was a butcher instead of a surgeon and messed up a cpu. He maybe used a dremel directly on the cpu (who knows). I say stay away!

I lapped my Q6600 and saw it drop by 5C instantly. It also looked quite nice copper. If done right the process is definitely worth it.
