Don't do it unless a good body shop says it's OK. And remember, having worked in the car biz, I have a decent feel for what a car like that should be bought for, and $3000 is just too much. The seller needs to find another sucker for his repaired rice-stickered wreck.
I couldn't have said it better myself. With so many other, good cars available. Why even give this one a second look? $3,000 might seem like a bargain, but what will happen when you need a new pair of front tires every 10,000 miles?

$3,000? Would that be in Canadian funds?

Even if that car got a new frame I would not buy. Cars that badly damaged should be parted out.

If it was me and the guy gave me the car, I still wouldn't take it.

Salvage title = totaled.

That is an awesome deal, but since it is wrecked...... there is no telling what is wrong with it.

Safer in the long run, get Kia, or something WITHOUT a salvage title

Two years ago I kept seeing low mileage 1999-2001 Hyundai Elantra's in the newspaper going for an insanely low price like $4,800 they were all TOTALLED SALVAGED cars.

Of course stupid me I bought one but it was a 94 Toyota Corolla it ran fine but I wouldn't do it again.

I bought a car with a salvaged title once. Something fishy like a car dealership can have the car retitled in tennessee so you can't really tell it was salvaged.

Right off the bat I was having problems, broken motor mounts, noises, suspension troubles.

Turns out the car had a crack in the frame.

There are also horror stories of cars breaking in have or having major failures do to frame damage.

Yep, and I still have yet to see a car come off a frame machine straight as it was new myself.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm a total noob when it comes to cars and the like and I got what I expected when asking the question here. The guy was adamant about not dropping below $5k and I told him to take a hike. Sucks too because we had been trading emails about the car for a week and it was all setup and ready to go and when I ran it through Carfax last night...BOOM! There it was. In any case, if anyone finds a 93-97 Civic EX for sale in California for a good deal let me know.

Thanks again everyone!

My mustang has a rebuilt title. I wouldn't have bought it but the price was right and I couldn't find one in anywhere near as nice of shape. Sofar the only evidence of the wreck I can find is that the driverside headlight is newer and the driverside fender doesn't have any rust on it like the passenger side one does.

No, just look at the picture. before the rack, he riced his car with sticks on the windshield. Never buy a riced car <---the driver probabily drove it hard plus with 138K. No way!!!
