SHould I buy TF2? My friend plays and wants me to play with him (likely wants to just kill me repeatedly), but do people still play that game? I have HL2 on steam, but I haven't played it yet either.

If you hate fun, do not buy this game.

Honestly, the game is great. Valve still releases fun and well thought out updates for the game 2 years after launch. One is just a few days away. These updates add new weapons for a class, a bunch of achievements for the class, and usually a new map or two (although they have skimped lately and these maps are just community made maps made "official"). The community is big and it's never hard to find a server that's full.

You are able to play the game for free this weekend.
Try it out, see if you like it.

TF2 is one of my favorite games of all time. So no, stay far away from it.

TF2 is fun, I don't play a lot, and I'm just decent. When I play I always have a blast and end up wondering "hummm, why don't I play this more? It's a great game.

TF2 is the most fun I have had online.

Hundreds of hours played and it still keeps innovating. I hadn't played it for a few weeks after Modern Warfare 2 came out, then I saw the Soldier v Demoman war. Being a Soldier fan I immediately got back into TF2 for the war effort - it was incredibly tense trying to kill demos (and not get killed by them) there were some brilliant duels against some excellent demomen. All in all, it is truly great fun.

Yes. It's still the first game I play when I actually get free time to play games. With the free weekend it is a good opportunity to try it out, but I recommend befriending some ATers and joining them on their regular servers so get the best experience. Sometimes free weekends do not truly represent the real experience of the game in my opinion.

Well, the problem with the free weekends up til now has always been that they're attached to class updates. That tend to blow the typical division of classes - this weekend, you'll no doubt see many, many, many more soldiers and demos then you would on a regular weekend.

But, that said, yes, you should buy it. Plenty of people still play, still have trouble getting a slot in my favorite servers.

Though, probably should've asked this when it was $2.49.

It's what, $9.99 full price? That's still a steal. There'll probably be some end of year sale special too.

$19.99 is full price. Which is STILL a steal! I play this game more than any other game I own. Love it! You will not be disappointed!

This is why I recommended befriending some ATers and following them around. I know all of the servers I regularly play on limit the number of each class, particularly when there are class updates like this.

This game is insane fun. I didn't play it for the first year I bought the orange box. But man have I made up for time the 350 hours the last year. (Did I just say that out loud?)

TF2 is one of the all time great games. It sells for what, like $5 or so lately?

Even though valve is slow as shit releasing all the class updates for the game, it is a fun game. Probably one of the best in the past decade.

It's dirt cheap, so why not?

I don't like TF2 that much though. To me, it was the weakest offering in the Orange Box. I just don't care for the style and weapons, and I've never been able to get good at it (thus, it's no fun for me).

But sales come out all the time for TF2, and it is worth checking out.

Absolutely.

I just can't get enough of payload. It's just so much fun and I find that the teamwork really makes a difference in payload, more than others. I'd really like to see a couple more maps though, after playing Goldrush and Badwater for so many hours.

I can think of no way to get more joy out of ten bucks. Though I bought it with Orange Box for like 45 or whatever it was when it first came out, still one of the best gaming buys I've ever made.

I wish I had good servers close to me. I haven't played in a long time but I think the best I could do was connect to Oz. But bobdole shouldn't buy the game, bobdole should just try it out free for the next four days. In fact, bobdole should only speak in the third person while playing.

bobdole, bobdole, bobdole... bobdole... .... bob.... dole.... ZZzzzzzzzzz

Honestly, if TF2 retailed for $50 (now, not when it actually launched), it would still be a good deal. The developer support and free content is ridiculous. Even at $50, I can't think of another multi-player shooter that gives as much value.

I wish I could get into TF2 like I can CS:S, COD4, L4D, and similar online FPS's. Something about the cartoony graphics and fast-paced action just turns me off.

I've put about 10-20 hours into it just trying to warm up to it, but it just doesn't feel right. It looks like a great game and I love the versatility of the various classes, the use of teamwork, and especially the constant content updates. It reminds me a lot of Enemy Territory from back in the day, which was insanely fun, but just not quite the same.

Maybe I just need to play more or stick with one of the classes I don't enjoy as much (heavy, solider, scout) to see if I warm up to them as I get upgrades. Spy was the first class I tried and still my best, but I'm not a horrible pyro, engineer, or sniper either.

Still can't hit $#!& with the bow, though. The sniper rifle seems so much easier.
