Guys,

I just landed a new job and I was thinking about rewarding myself with apoppin's 1950Pro.

My current rig:

Athlon XP Mobile 2500 running at 2300mhz
1gb DDR400
ATi X800Pro 256mb, oveclocked to 520/520
Enermax 365w PSU with 26A on the +12v rail
Dell 2405FPW @ 1920x1200 resolution

My main concern is the PSU. Will it cut it?

Also, do I need this card? The games I play:

- CS:S
- HL2
- C&C 3 (demo)
- Far Cry (would be nice to try it in HDR)
- UT2004
- Supreme Commander (demo, didn't like it, the game might be good tho)
- Total Annihilation (old and I guess irrelevant)
- I will definately want to play Crysis

The only game I never enjoyed due to performance issues was FEAR.

Suggestions?

Oh, and there are a few games that I can't run so well at 1920x1200. I almost always have to reduce the settings a bit and disable AA.

He wants $220USD shipped to Toronto, Canada.

You have 3.5 hours left!

You will also want a stronger PSU! That PSU won't cut it on the 12v rail.

Problem with that is PCIe.

Sickbeast you really need a A64 minimum - I'll send a you a 144 opteron for free if you agree to buy a motherboard and you can use your existing ram. Yes buy Poppys card but ask for a AT discount.

PSU is not an issue with enermax 26A

don't get the 256mb model. You will suffer with games like Crysis , Oblivion , Supreme Commander , UT2007 , Quake War.

it is the 256MB version ... which typically sells for ~$40 less :p

no rebate with my brand new card

as to SB's PS ... "probably" sufficient unless "loaded" or steeply o/cd

and IF your CPU is giving you "sufficient FPS", you will get "the same" BUT with all the eyecandy, HDR/SM3.0, AA/AF and *details* you can throw at it
[depending on resolution]

and i notice you gave *yourself* a ten dollar discount ... :p
[make it $220 shipped, it's yours]

Free Opteron 144? That's a super-nice gesture. I'll do it, but why are you being so nice? :)

Ah you have the 512MB version.

This is the first time I've heard of any issues with Sapphire (looking at your other thread).

that has me thinking if my enermax is enough to power one of these X1950 Pros it has 36A on the 12v but my vcore is maxed on my cpu (I also have 4HDs)

Ok with Zebo's Opteron 144 I guess I'm building a new Socket 939 rig. Motherboard suggestions? :)

It also looks like I'll buy apoppin's card.

Shouldn't I just go with PCI-E if I get the Opteron?

/confused

SickBeast: It depends...I don't know too much about optrons (or how powerful it is, I'm assuming it's at least eq to A64 3000+), but PCI-E is the way of the future, if you plan to upgrade your video card again in the future :( it's so hard to find an AGP card now a days without having to wait for days for them to order it for you...

apoppin: Now you've gotten me intrested in the video card, I'm just worried my PS will kill it -_-

I must not do any impulsive buying, but I want a new video card...I just came back from a 2 week Vacation and all I did was spend money -_- lots of it -_-

Wow, Zebo is actually sending me a free Opteron 144. :)

I'm gonna put together a Socket 939 rig now it seems. I'll recycle my RAM but I need a GFX card now...should I go with a 1950Pro PCI-E or something?

Thans Zebo!

so get a X1950XT 256MB if its below $240 CAD !! it totally owns everything in its price range : ) ... I have recommended that card to every one i know but few end up buying crappy 7900GT for the same price.

*lies* ... all lies

:p

Sapphire's product is *fine* ... it's their cheapass RMA "processing fee" that i HAD an issue with

even that is NOT an issue as i got FREE rma from ZZf

so that leaves ...

... my PS

and while you guys are "giving" stuff away - anyone want to send me a *free* more powerful PS?
:gift:

If NOT ... then i am keeping my 7800GS OC which does NOT require me to spend MORE money to keep my x1950p

OK ?

and SB ... if you are going PCIe then you want a x1950xt for the same money ;)

No now that you have a PCIe you can get something with some decent price/performance values attached to it. But I don't know about Canada prices.
