don't if you don't want to keep it. even if there is a bad shortage the trouble is only going to be worth a couple bucks

Many, many, many other people have already had the same idea.

It will be funny if there are hundreds of above-retail auctions on eBay with no bidders, because the shortage only exists from speculators.

Thats why console launches suck nowadays. Half the people buying them are only doing so to scalp them, and so a lot of people who actually want them can't get them (unless they're stupid and want to get molested on eBay).

I remember when PS2's were selling for DOUBLE of what they were worth. I bet it could be the same for Xbox 360's

Weren't they going for over $1000? Thats over triple. I don't expect 360 prices to go that high because I think there will be a steady stream of them coming in throughout the holidays.

Although there are 'shortages' at places like EB and gamestop, I think there are plenty elsewhere, as I read there will be a million and change for launch... In some microsoft stock report.

Ok. And how are you going to get your hands on one?

Ok, I'm posting far too much in this thread, but oh well. :)

Anyways. I wondered how MS figured they'd sell over 3 million within 3 months if the shortages were as bad as some people have been making them out to be. I've seen people say Gamestop and EB told them they don't figure they'll be able to fill all preorders before next April because they're not supposed to get much stock.

I still wonder if its not a big gimmick. MS telling retailers to say they have huge shortages and then everyone runs out to buy it on launch day to find there to be plenty of them available, but who knows. Just over a week now. I'm curious if MS will make any announcements about availability and production numbers.

That's an even more amusing thought: people like cheezy321 buying units for above retail on spec, thinking they can turn around and gouge people on eBay :)

the day of the launch ebay should just create a sub section "xbox 360 scalpers here" then you'll see ten systems in a row posted from the same user name. Its rather pathetic.

And another section for people selling "xbox 360 boxes" to morons who don't read the auction.

Plus the PS2 launched at the height of the dot-com bubble, when pimple faced 18-24 year olds had more spare cash floating around than they knew what to do with.

Sounds stupid to assume there'd be a shortage from a company worth as much as microsoft. . . .

Perhaps their worth has no bearing on console availability, but IMO I doubt the wait people would have to endure to get themselfs a 360 @ retail price would span more than a few weeks time.

I certainly wouldn't throw my money away like that.

Yeah, I think so. Rumor had it that launch was down to 400,000 systems I think right?

well...

"Microsoft informed the shareholders that they will deliver approximately 1,098,200 units of Xbox 360 for the US launch on November 22, and 20% are Core Systems. Most of the shipment will be delivered to Walmart and Best Buy branches, due to the fact that they are the official sponsors for launch. Microsoft expects to sell 3 million units of Xbox 360 in the first 3 months."

1.1 million systems shouldn't be too hard to come by..
