Should I buy an iPAQ 3670, or a Visor Prism?

I like the 64k colors of the Prism vs. the 4k colors of the iPAQ. Soon I will need both, but I'm wondering which I should get now. I can get either one for pretty close to the same price, but which would you choose?

I will soon buy the one I don't buy now, as I'll be needing both for integration projects. The iPAQ has several new models coming out, so I figured I'd get the Prism now, and get the better iPAQ later. Opinions?

Well, the Prism just recently dropped in price to $299 and with the Dell Small Business 20% off deal right now you can get it for around $240+ship+tax.

I use a Platinum and my wife has the Edge. The Handspring modules are very cool. I'm using a Matchbook drive w/8MB CF card. Been using mine with Pocketlogger to datalog my car while driving.

You can also add a Magellan GPS and there's a new module which lets you use your Visor w/ Sprint PCS as a cellphone+web access.

Overall I would choose the iPaq, gives you a lot more bang for your buck and is a lot more powerful.

Most importantly how do you plan on using your PDA? We need more details because these are two competing platforms and it makes no sense to say the Palm is better than the iPaq without knowing what your needs are.

RossMan: At the moment, my needs are for barcode integration applications. I'll be building interfaces from these barcode scanners to a backoffice system which handles the data. We're deploying both a Pocket PC based scanner/decoder, and a DOS-based scanner/decoder, but the need is there for a palm-based scanner as well. I also have other general needs, and most point towards the iPAQ, but I will need both at some point. I just don't want to buy an iPAQ and then have a newer, better model automatically move the 3670 into extreme obsolescence.

Descartes - I've always wondered what exactly does your nick name mean? Mine's easy, nickname.

I would definitely get the Compaq iPaq H3670 which is available at CompUSA for $299 after rebate.

It sounds like the iPaq will meet both your personal and business needs.

Since you also intend on deploying Palm OS based barcode scanning does it absolutely require a high end model like the Visor Prism, which is costly? If not, you can pick up a cheap Palm m100 for around $100.

Aside from color what do you find appealing about the Visor Prism?

If color on a Palm OS is a requirement for your barcode scanning software then I would get the Visor Prism or the comparable Sony Clie, sorry I don't know the model number for the Clie.
