Friend of mine has a used g3 (366mhz, 192mb, 4gb) ibook sitting around he will sell for me for $cheap ($150)... and i've gotta tell you, i am tempted, even though i am a windows freak. 'specially since i can upgrade it to 320mb of ram (gotta love that 64mb integrated), and a 20gb hdd for like.. $40 more, since i already have the hdd sitting here... but what do you guys think?

i wouldn't use the laptop for much more than surfing the web, writing papers, maybe a bit of wardriving, that kind of thing - not stuff like games, which is hard to do on all but the most expensive laptops anyway.. i have my desktop (see: sig) for that. Thin & light is also a big thing, since i don't need alot of power in it.

i guess i'm torn, and i wanted ATOT to flame me for even considering buying a mac. flame away.

Wow, that is a nice deal. As long as you dont expect much out of OSX running on it, its pretty sweet. OS9 would definitely run faster though.

Tough call... really is going to be underpowered and you won't have the best experience with it, but it is dirt-cheap.

OS X should run less-than-smoothly on that...I'd recommend at least a 500MHz to run OSX Tiger at a usable clip.

for $150, it's a good deal. buy it, play around with it, and if all fails, you can sell it to someone else for $200 and make a profit. 😉

it is 800x600. Oh, and it did have panther on it - 10.3.5. I'm actually re-installing it now, after replacing the hard drive w/ a 20gb i had around... you literally have to take the entire thing apart just to get to the hard drive.

apparantly i failed to re-connect the touchpad properly when i re-assembled it, as it doesn't work now. well, theres 10 screws to remove the top casing to see if that is the case >_<

that's a good deal. there's not much you can do with it other than internet/email and write papers really. if it's got a good battery -- it'd be a nice little companion as long as you don't expect much out of it.
