My Netgear wireless router died today. The two computers I have (one Mac and one PC) both have 802.11g wireless network cards. I intend to get a new computer in the near future which will have an 802.11n wireless card. Should I spring for the extra cost of a wireless N router or will it not matter because of the wireless "g" cards in the computers I have? If I do go for the "N" router which one should I get? Thanks in advance.

You should take into consideration that there is No 802.11n, there is only preN, or Draft N.

The manufacturers of Draft N state (and I quote):

This product is based on IEEE draft 802.11n specifications and is not guaranteed to be
forward compatible with future versions of IEEE 802.11n specifications. Compatibility
with draft 802.11n devices from other manufacturers is not guaranteed. All references

To benefit from Draft N you have to buy a Wireless Draft Router and a Draft N card, the cost of the pair is about $200.

If not paired it would work ay 802.11g level.

So for $200 you would have a system that might be obsolete in the near future when the real 802.11g comes out.

What to-do mean time? Get a decent 802.11g Wireless Router that would serve you until the real McCoy comes out.
