Should I buy a PS3 now?

Technology is always getting better and cheaper. Tomorrow is always the best time to buy.

Really, it's simple:

Are there games you really, REALLY want to play on the PS3 right now? Y/N?

If Yes, then buy a PS3 now.

If No, then wait because it is almost definite that there will be a price cut and/or a newer, better design sometime in the future.

Price cut is rumored to happen in August. As for the slim PS3, no one really knows...though it will probably happen eventually. If you REALLY want one now and REALLY want to play the games on it right now, then go for it. Even at $400, it's still a very good buy and worth the money, IMO. If you can wait for a couple/few months, then do that.

Thinking of buying a PS3 finally. Should I buy now? I've heard the rumors of a PS3 Slim as well as a price cut. The latter doesn't bother me as much; I'm guessing it'll be $100 at most. I was also thinking of waiting for the 45nm to roll out, but it seems the current 65nm systems don't get incredibly hot or use a ton of power.

I'm thinking of buying now since I'll have some time to use it over the summer.

I'd get the 80gb system and upgrade the HDD myself if I need to.

Thoughts?

"Thinking of buying" is different than "WANT A PS3 TO PLAY ____!!!". As Ryan said, there will be a better deal the longer you wait. If you want it now buy it, if you're just entertaining the thought I would wait a little longer if I were in your shoes.

I would advise waiting until the price drop hits, then buy it asap if you plan on it.

Hmmm, actually, do you have a BluRay player yet? If yes, then I say wait. If not, well, a BR player and a new console in one shot isn't a bad deal for $400.

^ nice deal.

Do you have Netflix and a big HDTV? Blu-ray is great if you do.

Are there enough PS3 exclusives you want to play to justify the rest of the $400?

How much movie and gaming fun can you fit into the 3(?) months before the price drop?

So far I'm waiting to buy a 360 because my answer was: I have enough of PC, PS2 and PS3 games to keep me busy until xmas or beyond, and there's nothing on the 360 that I "need" to play now. So I wait...

Like others have said, the latest rumor is an August price drop, possibly a slim PS3 at some point. If you can wait until then, that's not a bad idea.

If you want one now and have the time to get a lot out of it now (eg, you're a student and just finished classes or something), I'd say just get one now.

If you can afford it, it would be silly as a gamer, to not own both the 360 and PS3. Or even the Wii for the very few good games (imo) on it. You've named several good exclusives, with more on the way. If you can afford it, get it. Dont worry about what tomorrow brings. Its all rumor right now.

^ true eventually, and I plan on doing so.

But if you're like me and already have "enough" games for the platforms you already own, it could make sense to wait for the other platforms to get better/cheaper, and their games to be price-dropped from the initial $50-60 down to $20-30.

The bigger question is whether or not to buy a backwards compatible PS3. I chose to find a backwards compatible on rather than the newest which is quieter and (i think) has some other improvements as well.

Go for it! If you don't want to wait for a price drop that might not come till Christmas, get this card: http://www.sonystyle.com/webap...t1004153f0fp0c0s525:CJ

and buy your PS3 direct from Sonystyle. You get a $150 credit after making any purchase over $299, which basically knocks $150 off the price of the PS3 right away.

The best part is you get bonus points on your card which you can redeem for free games, PSN gift cards, etc. 🙂
