Should I buy a new computer now or wait for vista/directx 10

I want to buy a new computer, mainly to play some of the new games such as BF2142 and basic internet etc

I have a P4 2ghz and gforce 3!

I'll like to spend 2k or less and hopefully just upgrade for the next few years.

You are still 5 months away fron vista--at earliest.
The only problem i see is flash ram --but hopefully a usb stick will be enough for vista requirement.

dx10 is coming about same time..and prolly won't catch on for another few months after that.

So i have decided to buy a system now (but then my current one is already 5 years old) and buy a x 800 xl ati card with a blow out price of 130$ cdn while i wait for dx 10.

Or if you can resell your parts..the solution is even easier 🙂

I say buy now --but perhaps wait for reviews of the nvidia 590 boards for intel in a week. The only thing making me hesitate now..are all the issues with the current boards for conroe --esp i was leaning towards the p5w dh asus one (as most seem to recommend that one).

final answer: buy now 🙂

oh and i should also stress that all MB issues for conroe seem to primarily revolve around extreme overclocking and thus may not be a problem. Plus need a late bios version to support conroe in some cases --something to make sure happens when buying from store 🙂

edit: here is a preview of the nvidia 590 for intel

i hope i only have to wait a couple of weeks to get one...there is always something just around the corner ...much like a mirage really 🙂

Conroe MoBo woes are similar to am2, RAM voltages cannot exeed 1.9v. This means no ddr2-1066 RAM and even enhanced latency ddr2-800 will pose a problem. Ocing is incresingly difficult, as redstar pointed out.

Personally, I would be inclined to wait until Vista is released, and then get a new machine with Vista bundled with it.
